We arrived absolutely on our bikes absolutely drenched from a downpour. They kindly stored them in their shed until such time we could bring them into the restaurant to charge overnight. Could not have been more accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and a heated towel rail meant we were able to leave in dry clothes the next morning.

The family-run hotel also has a small meeting room, and a public bar/lounge serving coffee and light snacks. Daily specials, homemade soups and a children’s menu are available in the restaurant. Special diets can be catered for.

Perfect place for a visit to Melrose and area. Excellent staff, nice, big , comfortable rooms,, old style pub and restaurant downstairs.. The Borders bus can be caught just outside the door and the train station in Tweedbank is just a short taxi ride (we were lucky to get a ride from a local who was also on the train). We enjoyed everything about our four days in Melrose.

Overlooking Melrose Abby and Priorwood Gardens, Pear Cottage is a self-catering apartment in the historic old town of Melrose. Updated with modern conveniences, it still retains its old world charm. It was clean and spacious. The bedroom was in the back of the unit so it was quiet. The on-site parking was a bonus. Helen Stewart, who manages it for the National Trust of Scotland, was genuine, kind, helpful, and a pleasure to talk to.
