Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Spa, hotel in Aberfoyle

Just 6 miles from the foot of Ben Lomond, this friendly 4-star hotel has a quiet location, on the shores of Loch Ard. It has a spa, a select menu of wines and whiskies, and an on-site activity centre....

How does this hotel have 4 stars??? Outdated, bathroom- mould. Understaffed, staff not very pleasant. Room service appalling- had to go downstairs to order as noone was picking up phone, waited for 1hour for a simple order…and they got the wrong food. Then waited again to get…things we ordered but wrong and items missing. Breakfast next day was a joke, half mushroom, old soaked in oil scottish (!!!) pancake and mediocre quality. Had to wait for any order for ages- tea and coffee included. Ruined experience, we have been waiting for it for so long and it was just great to leave next day to be honest.

It was our most poshest B&B we stayed at during our 7 stays at different B&B's while in Scotland. Kate was super friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was top notch! Maybe one suggestion, the vase of beautiful roses blocked our view of the people across the dining table that we were trying to talk to during breakfast. Another location in the dining room would be better. It was only a short drive to Glasgow airport, the views were breath taking. The bathroom was MASSIVE, complete with a bidet, and jetted jacuzzi tub plus a separate shower.

The grounds of the hotel were amazing, lots of spaces to relax in the peace and quiet. Having the loch right next to the hotel as well as the rolling mountains gave the location an excellent back drop. We never took our pup but the hotel is very dog-friendly! We enjoyed dinner at the Rafters Bistro, very tasty and had excellent customer service. The staff overall at this hotel are wonderful and I will definitely stay again in the future.

A beautifully decorated accommodation, exceptionally comfortable beds, friendly hosts, and a peaceful location, this is a self catering cottage at its finest. We loved listening to the owls at night, going on gorgeous hikes every day, and spending time together as a family. We brought our 8 month old and our dog and the accommodation was well set up for both children and pets with a high chair, baby gates, a dog bed, and dog bowls.

Gorgeous location, the grounds are very well kept and gardens immaculate. The breakfast had a good selection and the cooked breakfast was delicious. The rooms were spacious and the double bed was very comfortable. Liked how dog friendly the hotel was. The staff were incredibly friendly and hard working. The swimming pool was nice and there was a snooker table which was free to use which we enjoyed playing. The was a small putting green and garden chess/draughts which we enjoyed playing.
