Irish Brekky provided by our host Nicola was excellent in a wonderful old age setting in a wonderful old fully restored home.
our host, Nicola, Provided us with the history of the original homestead, I think relating back to Charlotte Bronte.
Chance to share some stories with other travellers over brekky
Nicola has done a wonderful job of restoring the home to its original glory - and very proud of it.
Worth mentioning that our original intention was to stay closer to Galway but bookings were not available due to school holidays and overseas tourists etc. However, we are glad that is how it worked out - as we were able to have a round of golf at the local course at Birr - absolutely superb course for all you keen golfers.
Also, there was an annual music festival on in the main street of Banagher which we attended.
On the West bank of the River Shannon, Shannonside House is set within large, private gardens. Guests can enjoy home cooking and free parking, and Athlone's centre is a 5-minute walk away.

Mark and Linda were welcoming and accommodating hosts. We required an earlier check in as we were staying in Athlone for a wedding and they made sure this was possible for us.
The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The entire property was immaculately kept and is in a great location, within a 15 minute walk to the town centre.
We normally stay in hotels but would be quick to stay in a B&B again after this pleasant experience.
One of the biggest headaches when driving to your hotel is finding a convenient place to park, so these properties are on hand to take the pressure off. Options range from secure underground car parking, to safe spots within easy reach of the hotel itself.
Lovely well presented family run hotel. I met Tomas the owner when I arrived and he was so welcoming and entertaining, demonstrating his talent for guessing accents....he got me spot on.
Located right in the town centre with ample free parking
Room was spacious and well presented with lovely furnishings and accessories.
Food was good and plentiful
Breakfast was good too.
This is an amazing place. We stayed here en route to Dublin. it is a great family run hotel. We met the owner at dinner. The food is great, craic very homely. Having stayed in loads of places across Ireland I would have to say this is the best! Our friends told us Ballinasloe was crap...what rubbish. Wonderful dinner choice and freshly cooked breakfast. Stay here! Free parking. Old style classic Irish town hotel, So good!
We will be back here.
Well done all of you.
Michael.
