Castle Buildings Cottage1, a property with a garden, is set in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, 28 km from Whittington Castle, 34 km from Chirk Castle, as well as 44 km from Dolforwyn Castle.

The friendly & helpful host contacted me on arrival day to offer directions, to explain check-in procedures and ask if we needed her to get fresh bread & milk for us. On arrival the house was warm, cosy & very welcoming. I was very impressed with the style and spaciousness throughout, from the beautiful original features to all the modern facilities. Beds were large & comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and basic supplies were plentiful. There was plenty of hot water, and fluffy towels. Everything was clean and traditionally luxurious.

Berwyn Shepherds Hut, hotel in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant

Offering garden views, Berwyn Shepherds Hut is an accommodation located in Wrexham, 25 km from Whittington Castle and 25 km from Horseshoe Pass.

I bought my boyfriend the aqueduct canoeing experience as a gift for Christmas so we booked the shepherds hut for our stay. What a glorious corner of the earth! Waking up to the sound of the little creek that runs past the hut & the sound of the sheep is so relaxing. You have no signal so you have a few days away from hectic modern life. The views are absolutely stunning & the stars at night are amazing as there’s no light pollution! You can cozy up by the fire pit & even toast a few marshmallows. Laura was so lovely & helpful & I thank her for sharing her little paradise with us. I would highly recommend the shepherds hut if you’re in the area & wanting a few days “off grid”.

The New Inn, hotel in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant

Boasting a restaurant, bar and free WiFi, The New Inn is situated in Oswestry, 18 km from Lake Vyrnwy and 36 km from Whittington Castle.

Reminded me of fawlty towers, staff were lovely but food was very basic and room was extremely out dated, peeling wall paper, uncomfortable bedding, no shower. For what we paid I would expect better I’m afraid

I loved the way the cottage has been thought about so that it looks beautiful and although it's small it has everything you could possibly need. For example there was fresh coffee in the fridge and a cafetière. I didn't have my dog with me but there was a bed and treats for her if she'd come. Also a great location, in the heart of a quiet village but parking was easy right opposite and there's a pub, shop that's open late and a great Indian restaurant just down the street.

Nice village with good amenities. Handy parking area right opposite. The locals were friendly in both pubs. The fish and chip shop was good quality and good value. I'd highly recommend a trip to the Railway Inn in the next village Penybont Fawr, 3 miles away. Excellent real ale and the food menu looked good too. The Landlord was very welcoming..

We wanted to stay in an old cottage in a quite Welsh village away from the cities and that is what we got. Parking was easy, just in front of the cottage. Would recommend to rent a small car as the roads can be very narrow at times. The place has a kitchen, stove, nice bathroom and comes with a small slot in the shared garden at the back.

The cottage had everything you could need including tea/coffee and treats for the dog. Ample free parking was a bonus. Views across the hills were lovely and nice little walk along the stream. The village is small but has everything you need for a short break.
