The hosts John and Claire were very welcoming and John very kindly gave up his time to show us several of the interesting sights of the area. How lovely that John had also took the time to research about our relative who had been killed during the war so that we were able to learn more about his last moments in the Guillemont area.

It was a great property, Diane the host was extremely kind and accommodating - not to mention a great WW1 guide of the local area. the house has a very open downstairs area that opened up onto a great garden - which was a hit. You could look out into the garden through floor to ceiling windows and doors. The fireplace was another feature that we love in addition to the two rooms and kitchen. Breakfast was what i expected from reading previous reviews. Excellent. Fresh produce. Lots of choice. Eggs cooked however you wanted them. Tea (yorkshire tea 👍) especially welcome and fresh coffee. The hosts Diane and Vic were great. One of my adult sons said Diane was “probably the nicest person i have ever met”! She also helped over a particular issue i had. Thankfully i wish to report for the rest of our holiday it was “all quiet on the Western Front”. Location for us was no problem …in the middle of the Somme…. A quiet village halfway between our visit to Normandy from the Netherlands. Perfect for us to briefly explore our relatives who fought here in the first world war.
