This is a modern suite in a traditional wooden Black Forest house It is very clean, and very quiet. Gerd, the owner of the house, is very friendly, and really wants you to enjoy your time in the Black Forest. The whole area is very beautiful, and there are numerous hiking trails nearby, including the Belchensteig. Note that if you are coming by bus, ask to get out at the Wiedenmatt bus stop, which is right in front of this house! Highly recommended.

The house is located in a beautiful valley with a fascinating view from the terrace. The hosts live upstairs and are ready to help with all your needs. The house is far away from any restaurants or supermarkets so you either need to travel by car or to get your groceries in advance. We did the latter and it worked fine. We used public transport to get there, it is absolutely reachable by buses so a car is not a must. Nearby is the famous Belchensteig hiking trail. If you are lucky, you can get a view of the snowy alps from the Belchen mountain. Very calm and peaceful atmosphere in the valley, you can spend days reading on the terrace. The apartment itself was very clean, it has a kitchen with a microwave, a stove, and an oven. Dishes, towels, bed linen were available.

We really had an amazing stay at Gästehaus Sonnhalde (7 nights). Stephanie, the host made us feel incredibly welcome. We enjoyed the conversations we had with her and the many tips she gave us about the beautiful region. The rooms are large and comfortable. The terrace we had was also large, had a stunning view on the valley and mountains, and provided plenty of shade on hot days (or cover on rainy ones). We found ourselves spending a lot of time on this terrace, resting after a great day of hiking :). Also during our stay the rooms were really taken care of. We noticed that our beds were made daily, bins were emptied, windows were opened, towels changed, etc. Again, this gave us a welcome feeling. Breakfast was fantastic, and there was variation every day.

In addition, Lesley is so accommodating that if there was anything else you wanted -- like an occasional egg -- she was happy to provide it. Location within the town was perfect -- although Wieden itself is a bit remote (see below). That said, the countryside around Wieden is beautiful and restful.

As a solo traveller I felt welcomed. 1,000 metes above sea level with magnificent views of the Black Forest (southern end) and footpaths lead out from the hotel. Dinner was top quality and the style of cooking was creative and healthy. Coffee at breakfast was the best I've ever had. Nice dining table and bed linen.
