Absolutely my standout stay in Japan, a place I have both lived and travelled to more than a dozen times.
Besho Onsen Midoriya is a beautiful modern Ryokan with private hot spring baths set in the most tranquil of settings. I particularly loved the Kaiseki set course dinner and of course the provided breakfasts.
I will be back!

This route inn is situated in an area with traditional Japanese spas, and I was pleasantly surprised to smell Sulfur in the Onsen(public bath), something that you don't experience at other route inn hotels. The hotel has 3 separate parking lots nearby, and car users do not need to worry about parking their cars.
Breakfast was good and my room was quiet.

Amazing dinner and breakfast. We had a private room for eating.
The room was also very comfortable. We had everything we needed there, including hygiene products and clothes (yukata, socks). There was an indoor and exterior onsen, which were very clean and relaxing.
The staff was very helpful and we were offered a ride to Togura Station after our stay. It is a bit expensive but worth it, I would like to return.

Fantastic Japanese half board menu in authentic Ryokan. We were spoilt with the attentive service and extent of traditional Japanese dishes provided by the hotel. Every meal felt like a feast.

Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.

Incredible nice welcome and checkin procedure. Everything is freshly renovated and brand new. Drinks for free and private Onsen is amazing, so beautiful with the outside pool and view to the forest. Room was big and had everything. The owner acconpanied us to a local Izakaya close by and we had an amazing dinner in tyoical japanese atmosphere cloe to hotel. Village is super cozy.
Everything. The service was great. The room was clean, bright and comfortable. The onsen (outdoor and indoor) were beautiful. The dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Felt really relaxed during my stay there.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Zhai and the other wonderful staff for their hospitality. The in-room and public open-air hot spring was great.
The staff was very attentive, the person from the reception desk overheard us talking that kids need water and brought it even without asking. The ryokan has a 150 years history and you can feel it. Beautiful view from the women's rotemburo, I recommend going at dawn. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic.
Creative and interesting Japanese cuisine for the evening meal. Really helpful and friendly staff.
Short walk to the amazing temples and shrines of Bessho Onsen.
We loved the beautiful kaiseki dinner. The dining room was semi-private which was comfortable with kids. Kids meal was great too. Rooms were large and comfy. Nice onsen too. Helpful staff and overall cosy place. Good value for money.
Bessho Onsen is a magic place just outside Ueda, full of lovely temples and hot springs. This Ryokan fully embraces the vibe of this little village and offers good facilities in an amazing surroundings. The hotel is pretty old, which gives it a nostalgic feeling. But it is perfectly kept and with all the amenities you should wish for. A lovely room, amazing gardens, very good indoor and outdoor hot springs and a very very good restaurant. We had the best breakfast of our entire trip there! Last but not least the staff is absolutely lovely.
