A bit expensive but the experience was worth it, we had the best dinner of our trip in Japan, even though a translation of the menu in english would be appreciated. The room was big and confortable, we had a very nice stay here.

Everything about this place is wonderful - the hosts are such kind people, the house itself is really beautiful and interesting, with breathtaking views. An extra special touch was when the hosts made us a local hot pot banquet on the last night! The area is very beautiful with lots of walks and things to see. The private onsen in the house with views of the lake was wonderful after a day of exploring.
Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.
Loved that there was plenty of information on onsen etiquette in English - but only at the indoor onsen.
The family room was spacious.
Loved the interactive art in the main corridor - a great way to spark conversations with other guests (even with language barriers).
The hotel had great "bones" with a 1980s luxe feel.
Outdoor onsen was amazing. Location was great. It’s a big hotel but very traditional Japanese. Other first rate onsens nearby. Half board was very good (nowhere else to eat nearby). Shinkansen stops at Tazawako close by so easy to access. Very little English spoken but staff went out of their way to be helpful.
Excellent location, just right at the entrance of Lake Tazawa - the starting point of the lake road. It has its own car park with ample parking spaces. The staff who served us were very good. The public outdoor onsen was very good. Both the buffet breakfast and buffet dinner were of good quality, with a good balance of Japanese and western food. Our room was in the main building, looked a little old but clean in general.
Lovely hosts! Dinner and breakfast each night were quite filling and delicious. Two private onsen in the basement that were just what I needed after a long day. Also a very friendly golden retriever named Bonta.
A nice and warm guesthouse in the middle of thick snow in December for someone who wants to avoid crowded cities. The room was spacious, clean and warm. The private onsen was a plus point. A super cute Golden retriever who loves being petted. Good experiences in Japan.
I booked one night with dinner & breakfast. I didn't try the breakfast, but the dinner was exceptional. Every single dish was very tasty and the entire meal extremely well balanced. The onsen is great as well. As soon as I arrived, they offered me to book a private onsen right away, though it's also okay to use the public onsen in the annex building. Everything was spotless clean, the onsen quality was very high and altogether this was a very pleasant stay. I definitely recommend the dinner.
Very welcoming family and relaxing place to stay. AMAZING FOOD--SO DELICIOUS! Helpful with information about buses in the area and getting to ski area. Appreciated the big fluffy comforters on the beds and the HOT hot spring bath. Bath area was a bit dark, but wonderful after a day of skiing! Location is a couple minutes walk from bus stop that will take you ski area or into town/station--very convenient.
