I liked how the ryokan felt like a real home even though I only stayed for 1 night. My room had everything I expected -- a futon, a kotatsu, and yukata for the bath. I really liked how the place is rustic and that it was maintained that way. From a foreigner's point of view, the place is traditional in a very good way. The onsen was also very comfortable. The place was kept really clean; I had no issues with hygiene. Even though the place was kept traditional, toilets were upgraded to have automatically heated seats and with bidet functions. There are also available vending machines in the lobby for quick midnight drinks. What I liked the most in this experience is with how accommodating the host was. He's very kind and speaks English very well. I believe he's also the cook and the breakfast he prepared was delectable. He also gladly offered to drive us to the entrance of the snow monkey park.

This ryokan is so charming, clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the onsen is fantastic. We loved that you can book the onsen for private use during the afternoons before 7pm. We hope to come back to Ryokan Hakura!

Rooms were great size. The staff were very helpful even helping with travel. Dinner was excellent. I cannot emphasise how much I the staff helped even though I spoke no Japanese. Great value for money and close to the train and bus station

The outside Onsen is just gorgeous! We loved that you can reserve it for private use in the evenings. We highly recommend the traditional Japanese breakfast. Centrally located just below the train station.
