Make sure to read a few reviews if this is what you are looking for - in our case it was he charming authentic vintage Japanese guesthouse experience we were looking for and we were very happy.
This small hostel is run by a very friendly elderly couple with a lot of passion that are putting their hear into their work. You can pick up tea and water at any time and there are some small bites too. The rooms are nice. The onsen might feel a bit basic for some but with a little bit of luck you may spend there some time to relax without a huge crowd even on your own if you go there off peak hours.
The Location is 10/10 also in sumre - just 5 min walk to a pond where especially at sunrise you can see the vulcano of Mt Myoko reflecting in the water… Later during the day often clouds may build up and first Hide the mountain and later also might be the source of some showers which can be very heavy if you Approach the higher elevations.
By the way: Breakfast is a bit more western style like

Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.

A nice Ryokan in Myoko, a little dated but quite comfortable. The rooms are spacious were were a family of 3 adults sharing a room and we all had plenty of room. Trditional futon sleeping, futons were a little thin for our comfort but the doona cover was lovely and warm. The hosts are very friendly people, nothing was too much trouble. There is a public onsen and a private onsen. We booked the private bath and it was wonderful. We had a Japanese breakfast one morning and it was delicious! The staff were exceptionally friendly
Fantastic onsen - including a private onsen. Breakfast and dinner were fabulous - authentic variety of dishes. Pick up from the train station was a bonus. The staff recommended some very unique eating places nearby the property.
Had a prefect one night stay at Kofukan. The place is super cosy and the view from the room is spectacular. Loved getting in our complimentary robes and using the Onsen. Both the public and private onsens are tattoo friendly and it was nice to be able to Onsen with my partner in the super affordable private Onsen session. The breakfast was the best I’ve had in Japan so far so be sure to add it.
This is a small ryokan with ensuite toilets in every room run by a friendly and obliging elderly couple in great location 1km from Alpenblick skifield and 400m from Alpenblick spa with its famous black water pools and great Japanese restaurant. There is not a shared bathroom in the western sense, but a simple but authentic private onsen in house. The hot water and teabags and snacks in the corridor were much appreciated as was the hot drink and biscuits at reception on returning from skiing .
The size of the rooms was excellent with a nice view of the mountains.
There were plenty of facilities with a wine bar, coffee shop, restaurants, and a games room for the kids.
The onsens (hot springs were fantastic, both inside and outside.
Situated in a very convenient location, close to the ski resort and restaurants.
This is an excellent hotel, highly recommended 👌
Amazing hospitality, food and service. Location is great. We were very comfortable with the shared bathrooms and Onsen - the bathrooms were nearby and very clean. Bedrooms were great, frequently cleaned and beds very comfortable. Hosts Kazu and Moko were amazing and went out of their way to look after us. Excellent value for money and we have already booked for next year!
I loved the private onsen. I loved the beautiful family that was running this lodge. The breakfast every morning was varied & delicious!! The staff were very helpful & lovely. The rooms were clean .
Plus it was only 300 metres from the ski lifts. Hunter Lodge has a very good restaurant downstairs which our friends who were staying elsewhere always wanted to book at our place!!
The Japanese bedding is very comfortable and I enjoyed the private onsen. Staff was friendly and very helpful with luggage delivery to the airport. The location is very good and close to ski field and restaurant.
Vibe of the place, the people, the food, the cleanliness, and location (ski in and out, best!)
The breakfast was so great! nourishing and delicious, best part of the day before a full day at the snow.
Private onsen is available on booking, cute little indoor onsen with a view to a run.
