Absolutely my standout stay in Japan, a place I have both lived and travelled to more than a dozen times.
Besho Onsen Midoriya is a beautiful modern Ryokan with private hot spring baths set in the most tranquil of settings. I particularly loved the Kaiseki set course dinner and of course the provided breakfasts.
I will be back!

It was beautifully designed with lots of lovely complimentary touches. We loved the book store and coffee shops. The food was out of this world. Totally unique and memorable experience.

This route inn is situated in an area with traditional Japanese spas, and I was pleasantly surprised to smell Sulfur in the Onsen(public bath), something that you don't experience at other route inn hotels. The hotel has 3 separate parking lots nearby, and car users do not need to worry about parking their cars.
Breakfast was good and my room was quiet.

Exceptional hotel, private Onsen in room, Japanese style. Everything was great and gave us deep dive in Japanese culture. The staff was really helpful and please forgive us some of our "gaijin" behavior - we are exploring your commons first time ☺️

The traditional rooms were appropriately sized and bedding was very confortable
The dinner was excellent, as well as the breakfast.
Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.
Masuya Ryokan was truly a joy. This historic, family-run ryokan with provide you with a comfortable and authentically Japanese experience throughout. The tatami rooms were well-maintained, the mountain views were breath-taking, the staff was so kind and welcoming, and the food was incredible. Easily the best Japanese food I've ever had.
Very spacious accommodation and traditional onsen on site was included. The staff were very accommodating and even offered to extend the onsen hours for our late arrival.
A heritage ryokan onsen and they are keeping its tradition. The staff were so lovely and very helpful they made our stay so welcoming. The owner (I guess) gentleman even helped us carry our bags upstairs. At check out, they also stayed outside and waved us goodbye. So honoured.
If you choose to stay here, take the responsibility of understanding the heritage of this ryokan.
Fantastic old Japanese Ryokan. The owners were absolutely fantastic. Very friendly, kind and extremely helpful. Rooms were clean and spacious. The bedding was very comfortable. One of the best beds in our experience with other tatami mat style rooms. Onsen was small but had everything you need and outdoor open air section available. Would highly recommend. If we are ever back in the area, we will stay again.
The Ryokan was beautiful and perfect for travellers who are looking for a traditional Japanese experience. The house was full of character and it felt authentic and out of time. we loved the views, the layout and the space we were given. The staff were lovely and attentive to our needs — they even privatised the onsen for us two and offered lifts to get us from the bus stop. They were a lovely family, we will keep a beautiful memory of our stay.
