What a stunning oasis just off Orpen gate road. Staff that go out of their way to assist guests, quick & easy to contact, share stories, connect over tasty meal.
There are plenty of 5* lodges in the area. This is authentic, friendly, and good service at an affordable rate.

Awesome accommodation and food! Our guide, Joe, was amázing! A wealth of knowledge over such a wide spectrum. Animals, big and small. Insects, birds, trees, biosphere, I came back having really learnt a lot!
We felt like family after a couple of days. We’ll be back.

A special experience was staying at the Lion Tree Top Lodge in the Greater Kruger Park.
At night you hear the lions roar, the hyenas call and the monkeys jump on the roof and terrace of your lodge. In the morning while you are under the outdoor shower you see the impalas and springboks pass by. During the day with a nice glass of wine by the pool you see the zebras drinking from the pond nearby. And close to the resort you can see the giraffes walk. A very special experience to see all those animals pass by your lodge.
In the evening we had a very nice meal around the cozy campfire in the boma together with the super sweet hosts Brian and Lynn.
The lodges are beautiful and equipped with all the necessities, separated from each other by wooden paths that provide the necessary privacy. So the resort seemed all to yourself. No mass tourism here like with the accommodations in the Kruger Park. In short, a real African bush experience in this small-scale, cozy resort, which was a highlight of our road trip through South Africa, thanks in part to Brian and Lynn.

Our stay was truly unforgettable, and a significant part of that was the exceptional dining experience. From breakfast to dinner, the food was consistently delicious and beautifully presented. Chef Agreement is clearly a talented and dedicated chef. Her passion for cooking shines through in every dish, and her attention to detail is impeccable. We were particularly impressed by the creativity and flavor combinations in her dishes. The lodge itself was also very well-maintained. Our room was always clean and tidy upon our return, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing and enjoyable getaway. The culinary experience alone is worth the visit

Absolutely loved our time at Little Africa and would have stayed much longer if we could have! The small size of the lodge meant the setting felt very intimate and personalised, and we found each of the staff members a pleasure to deal with. The drivers and tracker for the game drives were engaging and get you amazingly close to the wildlife- we were able to see all of the big 5 within the first 3 drives. The food also deserves a special mention- was home prepared according to personal preference and was delicious!
Ideal for nature-lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and self-catered. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than holiday homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.
If you want a simple yet comfortable and authentic South African bush experience this lodge is for you! Great ambiance, adorable staff, super comfy rooms with a beautiful swimming pool, good food (accommodates vegetarians) . Just outside of Orpen Gate! Seriously a great surprise! We did enjoy it a lot!
Breakfast was wonderful, tasty and carefully prepared by Simone. She is a great chef and puts effort into the preparation and presentation of the meals. The lodge is conveniently located between Blyde River and the Orpen gate. The management couple, Morne and Simone, is very friendly and top class hosts. Simone packed an amazing breakfast on our departure morning (5am).
This stay was incredible, Simone and Morne made my trip to Kruger so easy and enjoyable, from the packed lunches to the homemade dinners and chats I couldn’t recommend this lodge more. They really make it special, I booked this last minute not really knowing what to expect but I’m so so glad I did! Went as a solo traveller and it was perfect!
On the way to Makuwa safari lodge welcomed by a leopard couple we found a true chef in Simone and two decades of safari knowledge in Morne in an amazing place. Lions roaring at the campfire in the evening, delicious dinner and breakfast plus the service of Prince as a personal guide in Kruger.
Very clean with lot of free land around the lodge. Highly dedicated couple looking after the lodge. Excellent meals (vegetarian). Knowledgeable guides Morne and Shane provided lots of information about animals on safari tour. Simone and Morne very accommodating and helpful.
The hosts Simone & Morne are amazing. They are welcoming and very caring. They gave us great recommendations, organized different safaris and were always there to help. The food at the lodge was prepared with love and it was delicious, from breakfast to dinner! We can also recommend the bush walk they are offering - Morne has great knowledge of the area, animals, and plants. It was lots of fun to explore the bush with him!
Thank you for the unforgettable experience!
What a great place run by lovely people. Simone and Morne are amazing hosts who made us very welcome. The lodge location is beautiful with impal greeting us as we arrived. The food and service were fantastic. Morne gave us great advice for our self drive safari in the Kruger and Simone made a fantastic dinner. We really enjoyed sitting round the fire taking to them.
