Ideal for nature-lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and self-catered. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than holiday homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.
Being in the middle of the Kalahari desert was fantastic. The units are stand alone and faced the feeding area for the animals. Our unit was modest, we had twin beds. The main lodge is small but functional. We loved the dinners under the stars. Our sundowner drive was really enjoyable. The staff were really friendly and helpful. One of the staff lent me a power adapter as I didn’t have the correct converter. The pool was small but clean and refreshingly cool.
the lodge is beautifully situated in the Kalahari Desert
Preferably accessible with a 4X4
breakfast and dinner are good but basic
The morning walk with the San and guided by Bertus are an abosolute added value
We also opted for a sundowner game drive with Bertus.
If we only had to rate Bertus, we would without a doubt have scored a 10
Room was clean and big. There was the possibility to do a evening drive. We decided to eat at the lodge dinner: there wasn't the plate choice but it was very appetizing and satiating. This was the first stop of our vacation and we were a little tired so we were unable to discover all the amenities of the place.
After 1.5 weeks of sleeping in our Roof Top tent in Mabuasehube and Kgalagadi and driving 300 km on the way to North West Namibia, our stop over at the Camel Thorn Lodge was a godsend. What a warm welcome by the team, great room (little cottage) and above all a super dinner (by far the best so far during our trip in Africa). Reward yourself and book this Lodge, top notch place to stay.
Perfect scenery in the middle of Kalahari Desert with red sand and wild animals kept in a private reserve. The main lodge is cosy and beautifully designed with woods and the pool meets the needs.
We were only 6 guest in total so I guess when fully booked can feel a bit less intimate.
Very big rooms excellent equipped with A/C and bathroom. Lovely dinner by the Boma and friendly efficient staff. Recommend all the activities on offer very much worth the price.
I loved my stay at Camelthorn Lodge. Beautiful spacious room, wonderful staff always very helpful, good food and everything was very clean. Great wildlife sightings, I loved the game safari with Andreas, he knows a lot about the animals and the vegetation, a great guide. I recommend the place!
