We picked this guesthouse in order to be able to go to the Meerkat experience nearby Oudtshoorn, so we didn't have high demands or expectations. However, this guesthouse was indeed a gem. Friendly, welcoming owners, spacious room which was very well equipped, bathroom with hairdryer, well-functioning WiFi, lounge to spend the evening, nice swimming pool, delicious breakfast...we couldn't have asked for more.
The owners went our of their way to help us arrange everything, incl. late check-out. They also kindly booked us a table for a dinner at a local restaurant, and it was indeed a great experience.
We would gladly come back.

We went in the heart of winter which impacted our lis to go out and experience the full effect of this slow-down town. There are many tourists attractions, so setting enough time to experience them all would be smart.
Who knew there was wine tasting in Outshoorn... not me.
The town is slow paced and allowed us to relax and take a break from our daily lives. We loved the opportunity to 'stop and smell the roses'.
Looking for a breakfast place was the most challenging part of the experience, there are so many options depending on the type of experience you would want. Some of the small mom and pop restaurants weren't open early on a Monday morning, so I would suggest calling ahead to check. (We settled on SPUR, but wanted to try non-franchise business to support the locals)
The town is rich in history and culture, but is still developing (don't expect a built up city center with a Starbucks and 15 different malls on the main road).
The opportunity to appreciate the culture was fantastic.

The town looked neat and tidy and I love the old architecture and quaint buildings and cozy little shops. With my own transport it was easy to get around and find parking. Met friendly staff at all the shops.

Was quite surprised by the wine tasting opportunities nearby in Calitzdorp. The Safari Ranch was great, Cango Wildlife Park was exceptional, excellent managed facility. The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge elephant experience was a bucket list type experience. The Chandelier Game Lodge Buffalo as well as Giraffe experience was awesome.
The Total Garage opposite the quaint Nostalgia Restaurant are friendly and have decent wood that is affordable. The Spar is well stocked and there is an emergency Clicks Pharmacy that supports that requirement.
All and all a pleasant holiday destination with many activities to plan over the course of a week visit.

Cango Caves - do the adventure tour.
Cango Caves - do the adventure tour. Conservation Centre - as ethical as sanctuaries open to the public can be, see a huge range of animals. Meerkat Tours - fun and cute but quite overpriced and the owner is horrendously misogynistic. Nostalgie restaurant - food was amazing, however park immediately in front of the restaurant and not any further - there are 'parking attendants' that demand money, and even after paying one the others come and intimidate you (banging on the car and throwing gun symbols).
Location excellent. Oakdene is the 2nd oldest house in Oudtshoorn. the garden setup with pool and various plants just bring a calmness and relaxing emotion out. inside the lounge was a nice fire going for heat and we had electric blankets on the beds!!
Very comfortable and spacious self catering unit. The gardens and outside area are very well maintained, plenty to keep children entertained. Beautiful, relaxing environment with lovely restaurant - A relaxing country escape.
This was probably the best hotel we stayed in during our trip in South Africa. Everything is extraordinary. Such a pity we could not stay longer. I would go back to Oudtshoorn just to stay at the Riverside Guest Lodge.
peaceful and calm environment - Amanda makes everyone feel like family.
Well set out and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Good self catering facilities
