Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.
Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.
In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.
Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.
As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

I am not much of a city person, but I had to visit San Francisco to do some Visa work. It’s very easy to get around, locals are helpful, and the “Downtown” Is not congested. I was amazed at the cleanliness of the area I stayed in and how the neighbourhoods are decorated and gardens planted by the residents. There are some seedy areas, but if you avoid these, you have plenty of nice areas and fun things to do. The ambience and architecture remind me of southern Europe. I was warned about the rain, but I had 4 days of clear skies. It was May, but cooler than I expected, and windy. I would have been more comfortable with a hooded coat. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual, and friendly.

My favorite city in the USA.
My favorite city in the USA. I do recommend to visit this city if you're an adventurous traveler, with deep respect to local culture and customs. Great place to enjoy a great variety of interesting attractions: forest, ocean, city, small towns, in a state that leads efforts to mitigate the climate change and improve the air quality.
San Francisco and Sausalito... always in my bucket list

San Francisco isn't a real place with real people.
San Francisco isn't a real place with real people. It is there to run game on the working class and scam people out of their youth. It is the most expensive city on earth. At any given moment residents are outnumbered by tourists and homeless. Don't be a sucker.

All big cities have a downside and that doesn’t exclude SF.
All big cities have a downside and that doesn’t exclude SF. Yes, there are some areas that are exacerbated by homelessness and decline of business. However, that isn’t the whole story. The city still has vibrant neighborhoods, incredible sights, and extraordinary dining options you’d be hard to find elsewhere. Make sure you go beyond the Pier 39 area or Golden Gate Bridge; yes quintessential. Some other great highlights include a day trip to Angel Island, an outing to Crissy Field or Baker Beach or in the presidio area in general, visiting the Lincoln Park neighborhood with the Legion of Honor and surrounding trails and cliff views, Golden Gate Park with the Japanese tea garden, the botanical gardens, and the several museums like de Yound and California Academy of Sciences, the food in the mission neighborhood alone could be a day….the options are endless and that’s just SF. Plenty of surrounding suggestions like Muir Woods, Sausalito, Oakland, Berkeley, Napa and Sonoma, Monterey Bay, Point Reyes, Santa Cruz to name a few.

I only had two nights and one full day. I love walking.
I only had two nights and one full day. I love walking. I walked 30km all around SF. Golden gate. Ocean beach. The city. Everything. Also used public transport to and from airport.
For me it is all about the beauty of the The Bay and the buildings architecture and general scenery.
Only downsides - Chinatown was crap - nothing like the real thing - full of crap tourist gifts - very few restaurants and very few Chinese people. Fisherman’s wharf is a bit overrated too. But it’s ok for a quick walk to get the feel of it all. Only other downside is some of the less safe areas in the downtown area.
Room was well laid out and roomy. Bed and pillows are super comfy and the bedside iPhone dock was a great touch. Bathroom was good with a powerful shower and plenty of hot water. Coffee making facilities provided were good. Location was great to explore Chinatown and union square with good access to the cable car and muni bus. Some good eating and drinking places nearby. Front of house staff were all friendly and happy to help with any questions we had about the area or the Hotel.
Beautiful place, clean, and cozy. Staff was exceptionally nice and helpful; I very much appreciated the heads up on areas of the city I should avoid at night. Room size was perfect for me as I was by myself, and the bed was really comfy! The best part are the individual parking garages; I haven't felt as safe or comfortable leaving my car somewhere in San Francisco as I did staying here. That alone makes this well worth the price. I will absolutely come back to this hotel!
The hotel is very good for the price. We were very satisfied because all the hotels in SF are extremely expensive. We live in the bay area of San Francisco so we knew the neighborhood and were aware that it's a neighborhood with a lot of homeless people. So we went into the hotel aware of this negative point. But it didn't bother us during our stay. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, very well decorated, small but very suitable for us!
We stayed at this hotel as part of our honeymoon. The reception staff were fantastic. The bed and pillows were so comfortable and the view over union square was great, especially at Christmas with the decorations and ice rink. The tram stop is a minute away which provided great links to the wharf area. We recommend jumping off at Washington st on route for the best coffee at coffee movement 😀. In summary, a great hotel in a great location.
It was soo close to Union square which was great. To the left of the hotel was slightly dodgy but we just stayed away from that part. It is a beautiful hotel..the lobby area was gorgeous and the rooms were stunning. Our room was slightly small but gorgeous all the same. The shower wasn’t too strong but didn’t bother us. They give re fillable water bottles which was a nice touch. Very welcoming staff.
Hotel Cornell de France is in an excellent spot in San Francisco located within blocks the business district, the theatre district, China Town, Union Square and shopping. I like to get a little exercise in the morning and there were some nice hills to walk up and down yet good breakfast and lunch restaurants on a flat area right out the door. It's an awesome spot.
The location was great for Union Square and Powell Street access. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. There were a lot of amenities in the area, like corner shops and restaurants. Also the main entrance was only accessible with your room key, so the hotel felt safe. Lastly, the lobby area was welcoming and I spent some of my time there enjoying the room.
Location is just so convenient. Close to union square. Supernarket pharmacy and other restaurants are around.
Rooms are spacious compared to other hotels in town.
All attractions of san francisco are just few minutes away in car and some are within walking distance
The refreshing iced water at the lobby is tasty
Staff are all so nice and helpful.
Location is great, but also the decoration inside is - little paintings on doors and walls are cute. Small but filling continental breakfast, helped start our days. Every day the towels were replaced and the room cleaned. Easy walk downhill to Union square and Powell St Bart, but best to Uber from airport with luggage as it’s uphill to the hotel
I like the location, that was near to downtown and near to power street station where you take the train and metro. Also the area its nice, its safe, its right in the beggining of tenderloin, but its clean and nice, you have union square 5 min walking. you can go walking all around dowwtown from the hotel.
Staff super nice, and clean.
Modern and beautiful hotel in San Francisco. We loved the spacious room and the rooftop bar and restaurant. The LUMA hotel is in a good position for visiting the city, even tough is not actually in the center of the city. With public transportation you can reach downtown in few minutes but is also really nice to walk around Misson Bay.
My stay at Palihotel in San Francisco was a mixed experience. The hotel exudes charm, with everything looking even better in person than in the pictures. The atmosphere is lovely, and the location, just steps from Union Square, couldn't be better. The receptionists were incredibly helpful throughout my stay.
Location was great, close to a number of public transportation lines (trams, cable cars, buses and trains/underground).
The room was simple but we didn't really need anything else.
Also, we felt fairly safe at the area around the hotel (related to what people say about the Union square homeless problem).
The hotel is located in the downtown. A lot of food options nearby as well as walkable distance to various attractions like ferry building and union square. The hotel is clean and there is a nice coffee shop on the first floor as well as a bar and some outdoor seating options a.
Great hotel, with perfect location in Union Square. So close to shops and various transport options. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The bar area is intimate and a great extra. I appreciated the added extras the hotel provided and the value of the stay.
Beautifully decorated hotel with comfortable rooms. Stylish bar area which did a good breakfast in the morning. Great location just around the corner from Powell station and right in the heart of the downtown San Francisco which was perfect for our one night stay.
Perfect location for seeing San Francisco. Walking distance to China Town and Union Square, and lots more. Trolley car passed right next to the hotel. Staff was awesome and room was spacious and very comfortable.
Within walking distance to Union Square and other nice area. Hotel was in a decent area but at first did not know since we drove thru tenderloin district
