Hagia Sophia
In 537 AD, Hagia Sophia began life as a church, before becoming an Ottoman mosque in 1453. The largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years, this majestic building is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Today, you can explore its vast structure from the inside with a visit to the museum that’s now housed within the walls.

They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan.
They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan. It has been a museum for almost 100 years, but now it is a mosque and you are not allowed to go and explore the place inside, but are confined to a small space at the ground floor of the building. Very, very sad!!

There are many many well dressed VERY friendly and helpful men willing to show you around, avoid them, do not talk to them! They are all trying to sell you something. They can get aggressive if you engage them and the try to leave, best to avoid them and keep walking.

Definitely gone down since it was turned back into a mosque from its museum status. You can't walk around snd see much of the things you were able to see before. The mosaics and freezes have been covered over again and the balconies are now out of bounds.

We had a nice tour but all of the religious items are covered. It use to be a museum but is now a mosque. However, there is a very beautiful mosque nearby, the blue Mosque, so would have been nice to see the Byzantine church in its glory. There is a great museum of Hagia Sophia that gives you information on the history and it's one of the most high tech museums I have encountered, highly recommend it.

Now that the Hagia Sofia has been designated as a mosque, entrance is free and the queues are horrendous. Try to get there before the crowds, even if it means missing breakfast - or join a reasonable-priced guided tour and skip queuing.

its such a disappointment that when I visited Hagia Sophia in 2019, it was a monument and now it has been converted to a operating mosque. in fact it looks like that this great country, which was built by great leader like Kamal Ata Turk with its liberal traditions, is getting more fundamental. as a monument too, since there are restrictions on visiting hours, it was disappointing.

What can I say.what a fabulous hotel.the rooms are fantastic and the bathrooms are even better.i have stayed in many hotels in sultanahmet but this one beats all of them even sura hagia sophia.
Hotel is in good location, close to main street with foot access to main historical sites, e.g. Hagia Sophia. Staff is great, very kind and helpful.
Great experience overall.
The location of the hostel is really good, near to the main tram line, then to Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The breakfast is okay, maybe they can include more options for the breakfast. I got upgraded room for the same price and this one included queen bed and bathroom in the room, so I was really happy. The receptionist was really friendy and helpful.
Very clean budgeted house hotel at excellent location to visit Hagia sophia, Blue Mosque and other historical places by 6 minutes walk. Numerous food shops, money exchange office, souvenir shops, daily use article shops etc are at stone throw distance. Bosphorous dinner cruise, airport transfers are arranged by hotel with no extra cost.
Owner Sedat is wonderful who provides all support and exhibits excellent hospitality.
The location is good, it is quiet there, but at the same time you can find restaurants near the hotel, markets and Hagia Sophia and Basillica Cistern). We lived in the room of the main building on the 2nd floor. The room is cozy, it was cleaned every day. The staff was very kind and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and various. The restaurant of the hotel is located on the last floor and during breakfasts we had a very beautiful view of Bosfor. We paid by cash in USD, as they told they accept USD, EUR, TRY.
The location is fantastic. Very close to Hagia Sophia. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We lost one of our luggage at the airport and they liased with the airport staff to find and send it back to us at the hotel. Istanbul hospitality at its best.
A great hotel, everything was very good, tours about Istanbul were recommended to us, we were very satisfied, the staff is very polite, I definitely recommend it to everyone, the location is very good, very close to public transportation and cultural venues, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, Sultanahmet Mosque, Topkapi Palace.
A great little hotel in Sultanahmet within 5 minutes walk Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.
The hospitality of the staff is excellent, very friendly and attentive. They are happy to book your airport transfers and help with suggestions and bookings. Breakfast is excellent - a good selection of continental/Turkish style buffet, with a selection of cooked options. Would definitely stay again if we return to Istanbul.
Comfortable bed, attentive staffs, good selection of breakfast. The breakfast selection varies every day.
Location is great, few stops metro away from tourist area (Hagia Sophia). Cheap restaurants all around the hotel. Easy to find. Airport bus stop is 5 mins walk away from the airport. They are building a swimming pool in the basement. I'm impressed with overall stay. Good value for money. Will definitely stay there again if we visiting Istanbul again.
Very friendly and kompetent staff. The location near to the Hagia Sophia is fantastic. Next time being in Istanbul I will choose this hotel again.

What guests said about Hagia Sophia:
Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside
Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside. Avoid the huge tour group queues & go straight to the top of the line, else you'll wait for hours. I was in (in both places), in 10 minutes without being pushy.
