Hagia Sophia
In 537 AD, Hagia Sophia began life as a church, before becoming an Ottoman mosque in 1453. The largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years, this majestic building is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Today, you can explore its vast structure from the inside with a visit to the museum that’s now housed within the walls.

There are many many well dressed VERY friendly and helpful men willing to show you around, avoid them, do not talk to them! They are all trying to sell you something. They can get aggressive if you engage them and the try to leave, best to avoid them and keep walking.

Definitely gone down since it was turned back into a mosque from its museum status. You can't walk around snd see much of the things you were able to see before. The mosaics and freezes have been covered over again and the balconies are now out of bounds.

We had a nice tour but all of the religious items are covered. It use to be a museum but is now a mosque. However, there is a very beautiful mosque nearby, the blue Mosque, so would have been nice to see the Byzantine church in its glory. There is a great museum of Hagia Sophia that gives you information on the history and it's one of the most high tech museums I have encountered, highly recommend it.

Now that the Hagia Sofia has been designated as a mosque, entrance is free and the queues are horrendous. Try to get there before the crowds, even if it means missing breakfast - or join a reasonable-priced guided tour and skip queuing.

its such a disappointment that when I visited Hagia Sophia in 2019, it was a monument and now it has been converted to a operating mosque. in fact it looks like that this great country, which was built by great leader like Kamal Ata Turk with its liberal traditions, is getting more fundamental. as a monument too, since there are restrictions on visiting hours, it was disappointing.

We didn't get to visit inside.
We didn't get to visit inside. The lines in the daytime (no matter what day!) were incredibly long. Website said it was open 24/7, but when we went at 10 pm it was closed. They should update their online info.

Unbeatable location, in the very heart of the central area. Amazing view from the roof terrace- Hagia Sophia right there, at one hand distance and totally unobstructed. Excellent staff, ready to help and super attentive. If you want to experience this wonderful journey back to the past while staying well connected to present/ Hotel Ares is your place to be.
The reception was kind, treated us pleasantly, helped us with our bags, airport transfer was arranged for us, our apartment had a washing machine, heater, all the equipment and the hotel location was nice. It is within walking distance of Hagia Sophia Mosque, Grand Bazaar and tram stop. Thank you dear hotel staff 🙏
We did not have breakfast due to our schedule.
The hotel rooms were excellent and located on a pedestrian street in a very nice area behind Hagia Sophia mosque.
The hotel has 2 x receptions which are convenient when getting around and the staff were excellent. Electric buggies, driven by the hotel staff are available and very convenient for the cases.
thank you for all staffs in this remarkable hotel because the service is outstanding, and the breakfast is beyond expectations! especially to Mr. Musa, who gave me early check in and a birthday cake in the room! He explained everything to explore Istanbul.
This hotel is in front of Sultan Ahmet Tram Station and close to the main destination of Istanbul (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Hippodrome etc.) and also restaurants. ATMs are in the same building,
Excellent!! The best hotel someone could choose for a short(or longer of course) stay in Istanbul! Amazing location(few steps away from the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern). As for the room, we got a free update, that is a room with view(hayat) on Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, that was marvellous! Friendly staff, very good breakfast, very convenient transport service to the airport! Thank you very much! Best of the best! Teşekkür ederim!
Best location for a city trip to Istanbul, located just 3 minutes walking from Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet Mosque. Very quiet place, eventhough it is in the heart of touristic places. For the price, we got a nice and comfy room. Breakfast was okay, typical hotel breakfast. The receptionist was very friendly, always helpful if we had requests.
I liked the practicality and helpfulness of the hotel staff, which started immediately after booking. The breakfast was very varied and good. The location of the hotel is very good for the main attractions ( The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace Museum, Gülhane Park, Grand Bazaar 10 min. walk...... )There are a lot of hotels in Istanbul, but this was our first choice and we don't regret it.
The hotel met all our expectations. Affordable price and the room was the same as in the photos. Hygiene was at the highest level. Friendly and helpful staff.
Location of the hotel is perfect for someone who is visiting Istanbul for the first time. It is within the walking distance of Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque...
Also, tram station is nearby and a supermarket is just across the street.. There are numerous restaurants and shops nearby.
If we come to Istanbul again, this hotel will definitely be our first choice.
Nice, unique and authentic hotel in the historic district of Istanbul, just 3 minutes of walking to the Hagia Sophia.
The staff was great and the breakfast was amazing with an stunning view over Istanbul.
It was exactly the experience we were looking for, not a super modern European hotel with continental breakfast but a charming Turkey place.
From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and efficient service. The hotel is located close to the major attractions like the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Eminonu harbour - at few minutes walking distance from most of them. It is also close to public transportation - tram, bus and train station. There are many restaurants and shops around the hotel. Good breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Istanbul

Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside. Avoid the huge tour group queues & go straight to the top of the line, else you'll wait for hours. I was in (in both places), in 10 minutes without being pushy.
