Spreading for hundreds of miles from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.
For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.
From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

Oslo is a beautiful city with many museums and cultural institutions. The new Munch Museum is extraordinary, and the newly remodeled National Gallery and the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art are extraordinary.

Oslo is a vivd and modern city.
Oslo is a vivd and modern city. You would hardly find old buildings around it. It's all bout architecture and skyscrapers. So, if you admire modern architecture, it's defenitely a catch.
My favourite sight was the National Gallery with a number of interesting displays and amazing staff who seemed personally involved in enhancing your experience. One more thing to 100% add to your bucket list is theDeichman Bjorvika library.
The unpleasant thing is that similarly to other scandinavian countries the food is pretty expensive in Oslo. So, if one is travelling on a budget, they might need to spend extra time researching affordable food options.
I personally enjoyed the well-developed system for getting around the city by bike. I didn't use the public transport so much, but the express train from the airport seemed very conveneient and nice.
The city seems very diverse like a patchwork quilt. Some districts are distinguished and posh, others are unerground and artsy. During this trip I stayed near the Akerselva river and cannot say it was my favourite experience. The district seemed to noisy and a bit ditry and I thought all of Oslo was like this until I started discovering other areas.

I'm sure its a nice and liveable city if you're a local, but in terms of tourist attractions, it doesn't have a lot compare to other major European cities. BUT it also depends on what you're looking for. I think for more urban/human centric activities (which is what i like) it lacks compare to other cities, but for more nature stuff its def a good choice!

Oslo is an amzing city to visit, to explore and see so much.
Oslo is an amzing city to visit, to explore and see so much. The hotel we stayed in was central, not far from the train station, quite close to the harbour and museums.
I would recommend that you purchase an Oslo pass. We purchased an Oslo pass for three days and we got our moneys worth.
As our hotel provided breakfast, fika(coffee and cake in the afternoon) and dinner we did not eat anywhere, apart from buying some cakes from a baker shop.
As long as you have a good map you should be fine.
As for museums to visit: the Nordic Bible museum, the armed forces and castle, the history museum, the ski jump and so much more.
If you are travellling by plane to Oslo airport, use the express train, only takes about 20 minutes. Oslo is well worth a visit.

Not the cleanest city in the world, but fine.
Not the cleanest city in the world, but fine. People are not talkative and they are rather reserved, but they are trying to be helpful when needed. A lot of beautiful places to go, including parks, other 'nature' centres, restaurants. Great public transportation. People speak great English. Mind that everything is rather expensive. I would most certainly visit again.
Hotel is perfectly located closed to most sites in the city center. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. Breakfast is really good. We stayed in a family room which felt cosy. We spent 3 consecutive stays while travelling to different places in Norway. While it is was a gamble at the beginning, we were quite happy to return to the Karl Johan hotel, location, have our best breakfasts out of 4 hotels we experienced in Norway.
The room and lobby was spacious and with the great design. There were the electric switch and socket near my bed. The hotel offered a various amount of additional amenities such as kettle, coffe, tea, hot chocolate, iron, dryer. Location was also good (8 minutes from metro station and bus stop. The city centre was 15-20 minutes far from hotel). To be honest, that was the best quaility to price ratio
I got cheated. This posting is fraud. No such accomodation exists in entire Norway. There is no such place. I lost lot of money as the person who apparently has made this posting sent a link to make payment and lot of money got deducted from my card. This posting itself is a trap. No such place exists in entire Norway. In the address given I physically went and checked
Actually it’s an ordinary hotel with cons snd pros, but sometimes the most important thing is how you feel while you stay at a hotel. We felt very happy during our stay in Thon Hotel. Very cute lobby, amazing staff and special mention to breakfast. You expect this quality only in 5 star hotels maybe. A very charming breakfast room and amazing food with a wide variety
The apartment is located near to Oslo Bus terminal & Oslo Sentral. Very strategic for tourists as the main city attractions is not far.
We love the view from our room. We were located at Building 31, Level 7. We have REMA 1000 (Norway convenience store) next to our apartment. Easy to find / purchase groceries.
I would recommend it to others.
Breakfast variety was excellent. Food provided was top quality
Love the tea/coffee and water offered within the hotel common area
staff was helpful in providing information within the area
Location of hotel is close proximity to the city centre
bathroom ammenities w Locitane product is a major plus
good value
Everything about this hotel is great. The location, the breakfast, but most of all the staff that smile and say hello and ask how they can help you at every turn. Our stay was at the beginning of our one month trip to Norway and really set the tone for our holiday.
Thank you all
The overall courtesies extended by the Hotel Staff were exceptional. Check-in was quick and the Staff's pleasant welcome was good. My Official events in Norway were in close proximity to the venues and that made it easy for me to attend my activities on time.
Staff were amazing.
Breakfast and dinner options were great.
This hotel was more set up for business stays. It is very well set up for smarter working.
Easy access to the city centre by bus.
Well equipped gym and there is a sauna.
The hotel is located right in the city center, 1 min from the T-ban. I stayed in a single room, with private bathroom. The space was clean, good possibilities to hang clothes and stuff. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The hotel was right in the city centre, really close to all main attractions. We also liked how minimalistic and clean the rooms were, the heated floor in the bathroom and the discounts at the restaurants nearby.
The place is an historical building expanded to a modern hotel. we had splendid 24 hours there and everything was perfect. the staff was super helpful and we felt at home with all the comfort of a 5 star hotel!
Incredible view from the room at 21st floor. Huge breakfast with varied food and fresh juice. Comfy room, bathroom is small but nice, clean hotel. Close to the city centre. I recommend it.
Very conveniently located. We were able to check in early which was appreciated.
No frills hotel but great value especially considering Norway prices. Would stay here again if visiting!
Norway is a really expensive city. This hostel is bad but cheap. It’s not good but at least it enables the possibility of staying in the city and pay a little bit less than normal.
the hotel is alright, the staff are friendly and helpful, the price includes breakfast, which for Norway is always a win.
I would recommend for a short stay in the city
i enjoyed the breakfast and dinner, save me some money. The in-between coffee and snacks was a great idea. they get my visitation next time i am in Oslo Norway
