The medina is vast, confusing and fascinating.

The medina is vast, confusing and fascinating. We stayed at Dar Seffarine during the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music (both Dar Seffarine and the Festival we'd recommend highly). Dar Seffarine is a gem in the medina, with some of the best cooking we enjoyed in Morocco. Also highly recommended: a medina artisan tour through culturevulture.com, and a bread making class through the Ruined Garden cafe. For day trips out of Fez, (Volubilis, Meknes etc.) Dar Seffarine arranges transportation with Tritki Tours. Mohamed Aberdor, the owner of the company, is very pleasant, and we arranged to have him drive us to Rabat when we realized we had too much stuff for the train.

As the Medina has 9000 small streets if locals come trying to "help" you do not listen to them. Just say thank you and move on. Not the best people in the Medina as they are trying to exploit tourists. Police is not doing anything about this. Even if you scream no one will hear you.

Of course the Medina isn't horrible but the so-called 'guides' turn it into a horrible experience. You can't get rid off them, not even if you tell them politely. And then they start to call you a racist which is absolutely not the case. Glad i could visit it with an official tourist guide the next day!
