The traditional farmhouse was beautiful and relaxed. We were treated with such kindness and generosity by our host Manabu San including an unexpected bonus of breakfast. He discreetly came in the morning and left the warm rice balls. We enjoyed them while watching the birds feeding on seeds Manabu left for them.
We also loved eating at Manabu's restaurant down the road, a tiny bar that is very popular with locals and visitors.

This property was amazing and the host Yuri was delightful! The public river onsen was OUTSTANDING. It was our favourite onsen in Japan and only a 2 minute walk away - would recommend cold river plunges! The lunches and dinners (we skipped breakfast due to early hike days) were exceptional and some of our favourite meals of the trip. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the massage chair in the lobby was amazing after a few hard days of hiking! Would stay here again and would recommend staying here instead of the other onsen locations nearby (Yunomine/Hongu).
Situated in lush nature, Ashita-no-Mori features hot spring baths, a Western restaurant and comfortable rooms boasting river views and sofas.

Both the dinner and the breakfast served by Ashita No Mori were some of the best we ate during a three week stay in Japan. Well worth ordering these meals if you are staying.
Accommodation was close to the bus stop too.

Amazing guesthouse. We paid for dinner and breakfast and it was amazing. It was a very friendly and helpful guesthouse, run by a couple who love walking and what they do.

Very happy with our stay at Villa Kumano. Hosts provided all the required information and were accommodating of some last minute requests from us too. The villa itself is huge and equipped with all comforts, including a wonderful mattress. We also enjoyed the dinner which was provided at a nearby restaurant, and the breakfast (we requested a boxed one, having to leave early, and it was packed with delicious and fresh ingredients). Highly recommend this place if you are spending one night in Hongu, even more if you are doing so after a long walk and are in need of proper rest!
Friendly receptionist, Katsu-san. Free welcome snack, clean environment, big shared common room and kitchen, and very good location to Kumano Hongu Taisha.
Location is perfect, you are couple of minutes away from the Kumano Hongu Taisha, the bus station and information center. The common areas are really spacious, so even if the accommodation is full it won't feel crowded. Free snacks, and you get also some bread, PB and J, and a banana for breakfast!
Breakfast was Sufficient with good choices of beverages. Good vibes and connected with many travelers. Just 3-4 min walk from bus station, Kumano Hongu Taisha, Tourist Info Center, about 5 min to eateries, grocery store, bakery. Owner is professional hiker (Kumano Experience) and was happy to share info.
I had a great time in this hostel, very well located near Kumano Hongu Taisha.
There's free snacks for breakfast, evening or to eat while hiking.
The people I met on the Kumano Kodo were very nice.
Nice hostel in a beautiful green region. Very close to Kumano Hongu Taisha. The communal area is very cosy, homely and they offer a huge selection of cookies and sweets for free. Also free coffee, thee, cornflakes available. We enjoyed our stay here a lot
