Vatican City
The world’s smallest state is also one of its most attraction-packed spots. As the centre of the Catholic Church, Vatican City is chock-full of awe-inspiring religious architecture and artistic treasures. Must-sees include the imposing St Peter’s Basilica – so vast that the Statue of Liberty could fit comfortably under its dome – and the mesmerising frescoes of the Sistine Chapel.

Did a museum tour, wasn't interested in a lot of the history, but took about 200 photos anyway. Not allowsd to take photos at end in Sistine Chapel, no point, cameras would do it justice, the most room in the world.

Book a private or small group tour ahead of time, will be well worth it. We did the Vatican museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters Basilica - skip the lines tour. If you don't have a reservation you will be wasting time for hours in line to get in

We were told that 43,000 people visit the Vatican each day.
We were told that 43,000 people visit the Vatican each day. To be fair, this volume of tourists seems to make it almost impossible truly see the treasures the Vatican has to offer. The group-based guided tours rush you like cattle through each building and the time in the Sistine Chapel is woefully inadequate.

Booked a private tour of Sistine Chapel after it was closed for about $125 USD. Last time we were in Rome, the Sistine Chapel was packed (like a cattle car) and we only had 10 minutes there before they were ushering us out. Only about 30 people on the private tour, we spent about 45 minutes in the Chapel and really got to see all of the incredible art. Included a nice appetizer plate, dessert and drink after the tour in the Cafe.

Hoards of people just getting pushed along route through...
Hoards of people just getting pushed along route through museum and little time to enjoy exhibits. Not sure that it would have mattered to do with a group, though groups did seem to get preference to enter.

The place is located in a traditional roman palace, which enhances your experience of Rome. It's very well decorated, in a modern style, and recently done as everything looks new. The location is very convenient to move around Rome, while not being full of tourists. Close to the river and to the Vatican. There is a Bus Airport shuttle next to the hotel, and also cafes and mini market. There are not many rooms, so feels very independent. They have courtesy water and Nespresso.
The location of the hotel is great, there is a shuttle to Fiumicino Airport right from the back street. It is also 500 m away from the metro stop, and the Vatican and Castel San Angelo are also very close. If you prefer to travel on foot, you can walk to almost every important point in Rome. Luca, the owner of the business, was also very welcoming. He immediately gave us tips to use on the trip.
Spacious and clean apartment that was easy walking distance to the Vatican and into Rome. Nice little outdoor terrace to sit on. It was very well equipped and the owner was very helpful with any questions we had. Easy enough to get into using your phone as the key.
Lovely quiet area with shops and restaurants nearby.
Good service! Stefano (the owner) was very friendly and serviceminded. They offered Italian breakfast in the price, it was very appricated and good. Good location with only 5-10 walk to the Vatican and central to everything. Will definitly come back to the same hotel when traveling to Rome!
Extremely central, 10 minutes from the Vatican. Comfortable apartment with lift with fabulous roof terrace with comfortable furniture. Wifi excellent. Double glazing very efficient at blocking out inevitable Rome traffic noise.
It was a very pleasant stay. The service is at a very high level, a very nice host. The location is great for exploring downtown Rome and the Vatican. You can walk everywhere. The room was very clean, well-kept, delicious Italian breakfast served every morning. Close to the airport bus, metro and bus stops. A hotel worth recommending, we will definitely consider returning to this place.
The location of the hotel was good to get to the most iconic landmarks of Rome (Piazza Navona, Castle Sant-Angelo, The Vatican, etc..) The staff was incredibly friendly - always ready to help us with anything!
Morin's apartment was the perfect location for our trip to Rome. Five minute walk to the Vatican and a market and amazing bakery for breakfast right across the street. The fourth floor was not a problem because of the lift. Guglielmo was always very responsive and arranged a ride for us to the airport. Definitely would stay again in a heartbeat!
The hotel was great and exceeded my expectations. In terms of location, it was in a very good place and we could easily go to the city center with a bus. Very close to the Vatican. Very good value for money. Breakfast was good. Hotel employees behaved well and cooperated. If I come to Rome again one day, I will choose this hotel again and I will recommend it to my friends.
I can only highly recommend this apartment for a stay in Rome because it has a great location (5 minutes to the Vatican) and many cafes and restaurants around the house. This is a warm apartment, it was very cozy in February. The apartment has everything you need for a family holiday.

What guests said about The Vatican:
Vatican is manic, I went in March and it was starting to get busy, I can imagine it would be very hot and uncomfortable in the height of the season
check out the hotels for your ideal location, you get very good value for money from smaller hotels/ bed and breakfast/ guest houses etc. Use the hop on hop off buses, buy tickets to the main tourist attractions in advance, unless you like to wait in line a lot! If you take the time to go through the streets north of the Vatican you can find many small stores where the locals shop. As well as the popular brands and designer labels these streets are full of market stalls with lots of bargains and lovely small deli's and cafes that sell many wonderful local goodies. Great restaurants in this area too, well worth spending a few hours of the day finding a treasure or two.

Just the Vatican Museum offers so much that you could easily spend 3 days inside and still not truly see most of it
Get a 48-hour pass on one of the "hop on, hop off" sightseeing bus services. Many of them also offer "skip the line" tickets for certain sights. These tickets are worth every cent. There are tourists waiting in long lines everywhere, which will waste a lot of your time and energy. Rome is an intense tourist destination with much to see. Plan well, do research and be prepared to spend extra on special services. You will need at least 5 days to a week to truly see most of the major landmarks. Just the Vatican Museum offers so much that you could easily spend 3 days inside and still not truly see most of it.

We were told a "5 hour queue for Vatican and the Sistine chapel" but if we joined a tour we can go straight in
As it's Rome there will always be tourists everywhere but DO NOT go with any tour group guaranteeing to skip lines, the queues are never as bad as they look. We were told a "5 hour queue for Vatican and the Sistine chapel" but if we joined a tour we can go straight in...for a €50 fee. We opted out and queued and were in and out of the Vatican, Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel within 2.5 hours all for a quarter of the price (student and EU citizen discounts). The same goes for the colosseum. Go at your own pace and avoid the scammers. The hotel had basic tourist maps which were perfect and we easily found our way. But we did find there were always less people between 12-1 as they had gone to find food by then.

The Colisseum and the Vatican are probably the main attractions, but there are dozens of monuments, museums, gallaries, fountains and churches that all offer a piece of ancient or modern history. Even the roads and walls and buildings seem to tell a story about one of the most preserved ancient cities in the world.
