The single room was truly tiny but adequate; the facilities in the sister hotel, the Kirkwall, more than made up for that.

There are only a few of them but incredible to think how they were built by the people of the Barnhouse Neothilic Village nearby and long before Stonehenge. Amazing to visit, just avoid the sheep droppings and if you can go on the free guided tour it is extremely worthwhile. One of the best things we did on our entire trip.

Close to Standing stones of Stenness and Maeshowe. New reconstructed room 6, comfortable beds and bathroom. Excellent full English breakfast, plenty of food available.
The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings by the side of Loch Stenness within easy reach of the Ring of Brodger and Standing Stones of Stenness.
Parking facilities were good.
Our room was large, clean and ideal for our stay.
Breakfast was good with a wide choice of food on offer.
Our one criticism would be the shortage of staff which meant that evening meals were not an option. One of the reasons we had chosen the hotel was because it offered evening meals and so we were disappointed that they were no longer available.
The Stromness Hotel location is excellent for public transport to Scrabster (90 minutes,) Hoy (30 minutes,) X1 bus to Ring of Brodgar, Ness of Brogdar, Standing Stones of Stenness (12 minutes,) Maes Howe tomb and Kirkwall and the 8S bus to Skara Brae. The Stromness Hotel is clean, dry and offers a comfortable roof over your head from the Orkadian weather.
quiet, on the water with a bench to sit and watch the swans, exceptional dinner. bed comfortable and very clean room. very comfortable sleep. close to maeshowe visitors centre and a 1km (best to drive as busy road) from the Standing Stones of Stenness.
The hotel is conveniently close to Maeshowe, Standing Stones of Stenness, the Ring of Brodgar and only 4 miles from Stromness. We had a fine view over Loch Stenness to the stones. There is ample car parking, and the breakfasts are excellent.
