The first floor apartment was roomy and beautifully decorated with a seaside theme matching the fantastic views from it's living room and bedroom windows. The patio and garden areas to the rear were great for sitting out. There were easy waterside walks to the front along a quiet access road and behind direct access to a woodland walk to Rockcliffe. Two hotels with bars and outdoor seating were just yards away. A bus stop to Dalbeattie was just outside although we used our car (parked to the front) and bikes (parked in the back garden!)
We stayed at Birch tree Hotel for 1 night last year and found it to be an ideal base. So decided to stay for 2 nights this time to explore more of the surrounding areas. We visited Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright, and walked along the Jubilee Path between Kippford and Rockcliffe.
Staff were friendly and accommodating. Our 2 pillows were too low, and asked for another 2 which were on our bed when we returned later Bar was very pleasant to sit in.
The hotel is in a great location. Close to RSPB Mersehead and Rockcliffe. The staff were fantastic and went above and beyond to deliver the best service. We ate an evening meal and had breakfast there twice. All meals were great.
Breakfast was great and dinner was delicious. Location was fantastic too as we were visiting friend in Rockcliffe. Lovely setting. Bed was comfy and room was huge! All staff were very friendly and helpful. Room had an outside door which was very handy
Good breakfast, good location not far from Kippford and Rockcliffe, and one of the bar staff went out of her way to get me *some* food when the kitchen decided to close early, which was decent of her. She's why I'm giving it a "fair" rating rather than a "terrible" one.
Clonyard house is in a lovely area of Dumfries and Galloway, close to Rockcliffe and Kippford,
the gardens are nice to sit in and have a quiet drink, the staff were super, particularly Tabitha who made us feel welcome.
The breakfast was pleasant.
Staff were all friendly and helpful. We discovered checkin time was 3 when our confirmation said 2 yet they showed us to our rooms and never mentioned we were early which was really kind. Rooms appeared to have been recently refurbished. Outside area was lovely to sit out as the weather was beautiful. Breakfast was good and the lady serving breakfast was good fun. Was good location for visiting Kippford and Rockcliffe which was the purpose of our trip.
