Make sure you book and go early. First tour. You can only leave the grounds twice which is impossible if you go to the grounds first as this counts as one entry and then a second after you visit the palace. Going to the Grand/petit Trianon counts also as leaving the grounds.

Do not overestimate how much of the estate you can cover in a day; it is vast! We noticed that they hire out golf buggies and, in hindsight, they’re an extremely good idea although we don’t know the rental fee. We went on Bastille Day (14 July) so there were fireworks at night. It was not particularly well organised. I strongly suggest you take a folding chair and a picnic. Ensure you get a good viewing location early (from 21:30 at least) as the show starts at 22:50.

Fantastic place don't make the same mistake as us where on May the 1st most if not all museums and closed as it was labour day (holiday) but we were allowed into the beautiful grounds

Amazing, but overcrowded with viewers. I feel that too many tickets had been sold for the times booked. Skip to the front of the line tickets did not eliminate the over abundance of people in the castle.

It gets very crowded. Use a skip the line tour. However verify the actual start time and meeting location for the tour. We were told to meet at 10:15 am, but the tour left at 10 am. They did get us caught up, however.

Buy a skip the line ticket before you go! We used Headout.com , and our tickets consisted of tour guide who was excellent. He took us to the palace, past all the queues and gave our tickets audio guide and gave us excellent info. He left us to do our visit but then offered a free guide of the gardens. So glad we did this, absolutely the best part of our visit!

The staff welcomed us Ann gave us a tour of the apartment. She went out of her way to explain to us the operation of the tv remotes. It was our problem and she came to re-explain things to us. Again it was user error on our part. Also, she lent us her own umbrella when we needed one because of the rain. It was ideally situated being 3 blocks from the train station and a 7-8 minute walk to The Palace of Versailles.
The location of Hotel De Lys was excellent. Easy to get to from the Palace of Versailles and centrally located to the market, restaurants and walking distance to the Palace if need be.
The staff provided excellent service and made it possible for us to park our van even though parking was not garunteed with our reservation.
The bathrooms are new and updated and the beds comfortable. Unusual for France, there were even mini-fridges in the rooms.
Easy 5 minute walk from train station. Beautiful modern hotel and room. Only a 5 or so minute walk to The Palace of Versailles. I would probably stay in Versailles longer than just the weekend as the town is interesting with nice shops & restaurants. Nice hotel with a great location!

The location of this hotel is excellent if you are visiting the Palace of Versailles. It is also close to many restaurants, so your food choices are great.

Great location just a short walk to Palace of Versailles. Beds were comfortable, kitchen had what we needed although we didn't cook, bathroom was clean and had a washing machine as well. The apartment was easy to find and check-in was not a problem. Parking was just 100m away. Lovely wooden floors too!

This accomodation is just as beautiful as the pictures. It is a true hidden gem in a world of mediocrity. We are very happy that we didn't settle for just another airb&b or hotel room. The history and character of the apartment is comparable to nowhere else. The location is very,very convenient to visiting the Palace of Versailles. The proprieter, Frank, is extremely welcoming, helpful and gracious. Privacy and discretion are guaranteed.
