Peaceful, relaxed stay in a grand old farmhouse. Shared full-function kitchen. Friendly and hospitable staff who arranged a 6:30 AM breakfast for me.

I think it has a great location. I booked it one year before and forgot to mention I want the view side, so we were looking at the wall from our room. But great location and easy to go with train + cremallera.

The staff were fantastic, very accommodating. We could not get a meal there as it was Monday (cook's day off I guess) and the guys at reception went out of their way to organise a takeaway from a local restaurant. It is a bit run down and weirdly there is no balcony furniture at all. It has lovely grounds, a large pool, basketball court and is surrounded by trees. We even saw a wild boar close by. Despite its run down air we would definitely stay again.

The location is perfect. There were toys which our children enjoyed. The house was clean and relatively big although only one bathroom. The host was great and friendly.

Montserrat is one of my favourite trips that I totally recommend.
1) Visit the Church and Madonna of Monserrat, there are times when monks are praying and singing - it's powerful. I attended and felt spiritually recharged. No matter of your religion, this place is sacred, and the Madonna of Monserrat is known for her healing powers, so you can do your own prayer to her in whatever way.
2) Walk hiking trails, they are really easy to walk, beginners level, they are well taken care of, and it feels rather a walk, than a hike. And the views are incredible.
3) I slept a night in the hotel that is located directly in the main square, and it was a great decision, I could enjoy a relaxed evening and morning without tourists.
4) There are 2 ways to get up the hill - either hiking or with a train.I did both times hiking, it's like a pilgrimage and cleansing to me before going to the sacred place. It's quite a stip, it takes 1 hour for sporty people and 2 hours for regular people, if you have knee injuries probably not recommended. Views are great as you walk.
I recommend to come as early as you can so you can catch the sunrise and also the time before all the tourists arrive.
5) book in advance the restaurant for lunch or dinner - Restaurant Abat Cisneros, otherwise there are 2-3 cafeterias/canteens around
Enjoy!

Stay at least two nights on the Mont, you wont regret it.
Stay at least two nights on the Mont, you wont regret it. We did and it was the most memorable and uplifting time, so much to do with the rack train, 2 funiculars, 1 cable car, the Benedictine Monastory and choirs, brilliant museum, lots of walks or challenging hikes, the views, scenery changes day to day from blue sky to misty mornings, a photographers dream. Day tours are not enough time to take in such a wonderous place.

Take the train from Monistrol de Montserrat where you can park your car safely.
Make sure that if you can choose the dates of your stay that you have full sunshine on both days, as you will then have the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic sunrise and sunset.
