We stayed here for 9 days last month and had one of the best holidays we've ever had. The hotel and staff are absolutely fantastic and we hope to return.
Now, I want to caveat this review with the fact that we stayed in the Executive Pool Suite which is the hotel's most expensive room, so I appreciate we may have had a different experience to some guests with different accommodation. The room was absolutely incredible: we felt like royalty when we arrived! The exec pool suite has two big bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and HUGE outdoor space. It's really an apartment or villa rather than a room – detached with a gate and it's own front and back gardens. Out back we had a private swimming pool, hammock, three swings and multiple seating/dining areas with tables, chairs, sun loungers and beanbags. There were very few photos of this suite online, I think because it's so new, so we didn't know what to expect but I can say that it was far bigger and more beautiful than we'd expected. The pool was huge – definitely not a plunge pool like we thought it might be. And thanks to the weather, it was always warm. We spent most of our time in it and never got bored!
Something else we hadn't realised when booking is that the room is right on the beach and you can see the sea from every window and from the terrace, which means you can swim in your pool with a view of the sea. It takes about 2 seconds to walk from the pool on the back terrace onto the sand and another 10 seconds to get into the sea. We went snorkelling most days and didn't have to take anything with us to the beach (bags, phones, etc) because we were only seconds away from the room. The snorkelling is amazing, by the way. We saw thousands of fish just metres from the shore and the sea was really clear and calm.

The coral reefs at the hotel are absolutely amazing. We really enjoyed the restaurants at SUNRISE Tucana, except for the Asian restaurant, which wasn’t very tasty, and we were served a Rum & Fanta instead of a Mai Tai. As for cocktails, we tried several in both hotels. At SUNRISE Tucana, especially at the Oasis Bar, the cocktails were fantastic. Unfortunately, the ones at SUNRISE Royal Makadi Resort were disappointing — often made with Fanta and vodka, and frequently not what we ordered.
