Hotel Capricorn, hotel in Zermatt

In a quiet location in the car-free village of Zermatt, Hotel Capricorn offers magnificent views of the Matterhorn, free in-room WiFi.

Clean, well run hotel with lots of thoughtful touches such as an honesty bar, nice toiletries, great shower and comfortable bed. A little bit of a walk (10 mins?) from the train station but manageable even with a roller case. Quiet location ( mine with a balcony where I could see the Gonnerat train passing). Great breakfast.

Excellent and very helpful staff. Our request for a harder pollow was immediately accomodated. Sauna wellness complex was very pleasant after a long walking day. We also loved the location, at the outskirts of the village with great views and close to the cable carts.... Oh yes and an excellent coffee machine in the room...

Gorner Ridge

Built way back in 1898, the Gornergrat railway is still Europe’s highest open-air railway – and the only route up this 3,000-metre high ridge. As the train gradually chugs its way to the summit, you can admire dramatic backdrops of rocky ravines and imperious snow-capped mountains before testing your ski skills on the pistes of Rotenboden.

Mountain scenery with their evergreens, the presence of snow on Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn and of course, the majestic Matterhorn.

Slopes are easy to access via the stunning Gornergrat train which is also great for non skiers and is included on your ski pass. Ski over to Italy for lunch though, much better than in Zermatt. The gluhwein in the Riffleburg restaurant gets the prize for best in resort.. leave time for this at the end of the day to watch the last of the sun behind the Matterhorn then go down on the Gornergrat after the pistes have closed.
