Craighlaw Arms Boutique B&B

Kirkcowan

At the inn, rooms are fitted with a desk and a flat-screen TV. The rooms are equipped with a kettle and a private bathroom with a shower and a hairdryer, while some rooms also feature a kitchen fitted with a fridge. At Craighlaw Arms Boutique B&B each room has bed linen and towels. This is a building that was a hotel in 1711. We love staying in old lodgings like this. It is in a quiet little village within a short drive of many attractions. The host, Debbie, was wonderful and spoke of local sites to see.

The Farmers Inn 2 stars

Situated 11 km from Caerlaverock Castle, The Farmers Inn offers 2-star accommodation in Dumfries and has a terrace, a bar and water sports facilities. Located around 20 km from Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club, the inn with free WiFi is also 41 km away from Cumbria County Council. The property is non-smoking and is located 17 km from Dumfries and County Golf Club. Our stay at The Farmer's Inn was excellent. The room was brand new, very clean and comfortable. We had dinner at the pub and, having French standards, the meal was unexpectedly delicious. So was the breakfast. Our best accommodation during our road trip in Scotland

The Crown Hotel 3 stars

Newton Stewart

Located at the front of the hotel, the Queen Street Bar & Restaurant is open to both the public and residents. With booth seats, it is occasionally host to live acoustic music and a live band on a Saturday evening. It features two large TVs and a pool table. With luxurious seating, the Knights restaurant serves an a la carte menu and a selection of after dinner drinks. The service was unmatched, every member of staff were helpful, efficient and friendly, they couldn't do enough for you. The restaurant menu was great - a lot of variety especially with the specials menu changing frequently too. Breakfast was also a winner, continental and a full Scottish breakfast if you wanted (you could pick as many or as less items as wanted). The hotel is more than 300 years old so it was lovely staying somewhere that holds a small amount of history.

The Cross Keys Hotel

New Galloway

This 280 year old coaching inn in the heart of New Galloway boasts cosy en suite rooms, real ale, a good selection of malts, and a popular local produce restaurant.

Experience traditional hospitality at its very best. Set in an area surrounded by beautiful Lochs, forests and miles of unspoilt countryside, the area surrounding the hotel is ideal for fishing, stalking/shooting, golf, walking, cycling, bird/wildlife watching, painting, photography and watersports – or for just doing nothing at all! Lovely old hotel in the middle of the village. I called in & asked if I could drop off heavy rucksack & the proprietor Susan said I could check in early. She was very nice to chat with & so helpful. Comfy room & bed, good shower. Everything I needed. Big breakfast. I had a great walk down to Kenmure Castle - fascinating, spooky place in beautiful surroundings (see my photo). Could have very happily stayed for a week!
