The Lion Waddesdon 4 stars

Waddesdon

This family-run Victorian coaching inn, set in the beautiful village of Waddesdon, offers comfortable accommodation with a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Guests can take a walk through the famous Waddesdon Manor. Built in 16th century French chateau style, here you will find an impressive array of art including work by Gainsborough and Reynolds. The staff was wonderful. The young lady serving for breakfast was very sweet, she helped me get my Covid test printed to take to the airport.

Kings Arms Hotel 4 stars

Amersham

This hotel dates from the Tudor period, but the inside reflects the very best in modern design. It is featured in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, as well as the TV show Midsomer Murders.

With hundreds of years of history (Oliver Cromwell once stayed here), The Kings Arms Hotel is ideal for a romantic getaway. As much as possible, the property is kept in its original state, truly an historical treasure.

The Swan at Great Kimble

Aylesbury

Situated in Aylesbury, 16 km from Notley Abbey, The Swan at Great Kimble features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. The property is set 36 km from Bletchley Park, 37 km from Cliveden House and 39 km from Woburn Abbey. Free WiFi is available throughout the property and University of Oxford is 36 km away.

At the inn, the rooms include a wardrobe, a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom, bed linen and towels. We were made extremely welcome on arrival by Mike. The room was spacious and well equipped with tea/coffee/hot chocolate, bottled water and biscuits, together with a nice vanity pack. We were given an outdoor key so we were able to let ourselves in when we returned to the building after the event we attended in the evening. We were met with a friendly greeting; a lovely breakfast efficiently served and quality latte and expresso coffees. I cannot fault the care and trouble they took to make us feel looked after.

The Olde Bell, BW Signature Collection 3 stars

Marlow

The Olde Bell, BW Signature Collection is a modernised 3-star coaching inn providing Ilse Crawford designed restful rooms with a rustic elegance. Some parts date back as far as 1135 and it has kept some of its original design features. The only suggestion I would have is to allow the opportunity to dine in one of the more original old areas.
