This is our 12th(!) stay at the Wheatsheaf - we absolutely love it. A great location in a beautiful little village, and a good base for exploring further afield - plus lots of scenic walks. The rooms at the Inn are clean and very comfortable, the breakfasts are excellent and will set you up for the day, and I would recommend trying the meals as they are just so tasty! The steak pie is a favourite, and the fish and chips are just delicious - but do book as it can get very busy.
We've stayed at many hotels and Inns in the UK - some hugely expensive ones too, but for us, the Wheatsheaf is up there among the very best, which is why we keep returning!

Proper country pub in a great location (very picturesque and peaceful) with comfortable rooms - not TOO posh but with everything necessary for a short stay, excellent food and a brilliant hostess, host and staff. Apparently it's a community-owned pub and that shines through. Locals obviously love the place and the people who run it. Very friendly place.
Perfect for rustic breaks in the countryside, an Inn is a small property with basic hotel services and typically traditional decor. Inns are fully licensed and have a bar providing food and drinks in the evening, which distinguishes them from country or guest houses.
Friendly, homely inn, hosts were lovely, food amazing. Breakfast sets you up for the day. Location ideal for walking, sightseeing dales. Rooms, basic but clean, very comfy bed.
This ancient inn has a good selection of Real Ales, very good food and a great ambiance. Situated directly on the Coast to Coast Walk, this is clearly a perfect venue for people walking in the area. The hearty breakfast (included in the price) sets one up for the day. All in all, great value for money and left me wanting to return!
The location. The people in charge were very good/excellent. The location sublime. The villages in that area were lovely. There were very few people so it was a pleasure. The Bridge Inn was pictur perfect and in keeping with the location.
The location was lovely, great roads to the Inn for travel on motorbikes as we did. Very welcoming staff, spacious and comfortable rooms, great real ale selection and the food was amazing with a varied choice, something for everyone.
We were upgraded to a bigger room; great position; helpful staff, although had to advise on how to chill wine (you need iced water, not just ice). Dinner was quite good; breakfast was very good.
It’s strategic location in the village and, being an Inn, the different ambience from hour to hour, day to day, depending on whether the bar was open, the weather and the day of the week.
Well appointed friendly family guest house. Hannah could not have been more welcoming or helpfull. Rooms were clean and well equipped. Room 2 which we stayed in had a a kitchen dinner and the views across the dales a mountains were awe inspiring
