The Chequers Inn, hotel in Newenden

The Chequers is a 14th-century coaching inn located in the picturesque Kent village of Smarden. Bedrooms feature exposed wooden beams and the candlelit restaurant serves fine British cuisine.

Our 4-poster room was large and had lots of Elizabethan character. Breakfast was excellent, though it did involve deciding the previous day what to have for breakfast the next morning. Lovely village.

The Goudhurst Inn, hotel in Newenden

Located in Goudhurst, The Goudhurst Inn features a restaurant, bar, garden, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property.

Easy parking, friendly staff and speedy check in. Room was spacious and comfortable with excellent recently refurbished bathroom, good shower. Good wifi. Plenty of outside patio and garden space. Ate twice in the restaurant and excellent meals on both evenings - quite busy on the second evening with a couple of large parties, but service was still good, so they've obviously got the staffing levels right. Great location for visiting Sissinghurst gardens. Would certainly be happy to return.

A very charming old inn run by incredibly friendly and helpful staff. The cooked breakfast was delicious with the additional options of some cereal, fruit, and yoghurt pots. We also had dinner there one evening and were very impressed by the delicious food and large portion sizes. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and the shower was hot and had great pressure. The location was great for the wedding we attended at the Oak Barn nearby. There was a great selection of beer and wine.

Charming country inn in Kent set in the English countryside. Original building but rooms made up to meet modern standards with necessary appliances. The pub downstairs has delicious food, not just pub food. Breakfast was typical English.

Marvelois inn on the countryside. Brilliant pub part and appreciated restaurant. They have a vegan English breakfast (!) and a very tasty vegetable risotto. I fully recommend and would absolutely book again.

Good dinner, excellent breakfast. Lovely staff. Nice village location - handy for the Channel Tunnel but not a boring chain hotel. Classic old English village pub with decent rooms above. Really good shower. Good value for money.
