We stayed for two nights at the Victoria Inn and we couldn't have asked for a better stay. Michael and his colleagues were incredibly helpful and attentive. We arrived before check-in, but they still ensured that the room was available, which was a lovely room on the first floor. The inn itself is about 4 minutes walk from the cathedral and castle, and about 7 minutes from the city centre.

This is such a little gem! We stayed in Room 5. Beautifully decorated, thoroughly cleaned, a fabulous nights sleep and breakfast was exceptional (Compliments to the Chef!!). Daryl was very welcoming, as were the front house staff through to housekeeping. You will not be disappointed when you stay here!

Just a 20-minute drive from historic Durham, The Royal Oak is a family-run hotel offering a traditional restaurant, a bar, and free Wi-Fi throughout. The hotel has wonderful views of the County Durham countryside.

The Royal Oak doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but don't be fooled by that - the room we had was large, clean and comfortable with lovely views over open fields. It was one of the best places we stayed during our six-week tour, and we would have liked to have had more than one night there. The beds and pillows were just right, and it was quiet overnight so we got a good night's sleep. We had a very good evening meal and breakfast in the pub. The landlady was friendly and helpful, and even got two burly lads at the bar to take our suitcases upstairs for us!

The pub is lovely and very large, was surprised how quiet it was for bank holiday. staff are freindly. the car park is a tight squeeze to say the least when full. we arrived at 3.30 and took the last space. the sunday dinner was beautiful ten out of ten. the room was ok, clean and did what it needed, bit dark but thats just the building i paid 144 for one night b and b which i do think was quite pricey really as it included breakfast but the cooked breakfast was poor. maybe worth around 114 - 124.

The location is handy for the city and the nearby river bridge is beautiful. The room was warm and clean (but see bellow). Dinner and both were excellent in terms of choice, service and flavours.
