The property is a charming Grade II-listed historic inn and former brewery tap house, which maintains original features including a log fire and wooden beams. Well known for its real ale range and busy bar, The Tap also serves lunch daily, evening food Monday to Saturday and a great roast on Sundays. The bar remains open until 01:00 on Friday and Saturday nights, with live music every Saturday night until midnight and every Sunday afternoon after lunch.

Foxy and the bar staff were exceptionally efficient and caring.

The name of the hotel has an unusual origin. Traditionally, the University of Oxford allowed their students to stable horses, but not the dogs. With nowhere else to house the animals, the proprietor of the local inn offered an invaluable dog-sitting service and the venue became known as the Dog House.

Loved that it was part of a pub, a little out of town and reasonably priced. The room was large and comfortable and the staff were super helpful and friendly when booking and enjoying a meal in the pub - which was also delicious!

Just a few minutes’ walk from Oxford city centre, the Head of the River is situated on the banks of the scenic River Thames. This traditional inn features a riverside terrace and a stylish restaurant.

The elegant bedrooms are individually decorated, and some have river views. All rooms feature a TV and a private modern bathroom with free toiletries. Guests will find bathrobes and slippers in some rooms.

We expected that the hotel would be quite noisy, especially as we had a room beside the beer garden and close to the road. However this was never an issue. We also thought the hotel may have been a bit far from the High street, but it was an easy walk to all the tourist attractions. And to stroll along the river was quite idyllic.

Guests may enjoy their breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Porterhouse Grill, which features a menu particularly focusing on British steak, cooked over locally sourced charcoal, in a Bertha oven. The property's bar offers a range of hand-pulled ales, wines and cocktails.

The interior design of the rooms is so cute! Also - they even have an adapter and wifi is really good. I stayed there several times, always lovely.

The inn offers easy access to the High Street, the university buildings and Magdalen College’s deer park.

Very good car parking area in middle of the city. Staff were very good at looking after their guests. We were able to park all day after checking out.

Lovely warm welcome from Kayleigh and the team. A perfect overnight stay for a trip to Oxford. Great country pub, good choice of beer and the food was delicious (both dinner and breakfast). The room had everything you need including a great powerful shower. Steventon is really accessible to Oxford, there's a fast direct bus service or you can drive 10 mins to the Redbridge park & ride.
