Sympathetically renovated, it is an old building replete with original features such as yellow wood floors and large garden. 2 double bedrooms, 1 king/twin, 1 single room off main bedroom w/ cot & single bed. The house is a refurbished old building which is typical of Graaff Reinet, and is roughly 140 years old - we have kept as many features as possible, such as high ceilings, thick walls and yellowwood floors. We hope this building gives you a sense of Graaff Reinet's character as one of South Africa's oldest and loveliest towns. There is a large garden in which to enjoy barbecuing under the stars around the firepit. Our gardener has turned part of the garden into a kitchen garden growing seasonal vegetables. Note: 1 double bedroom with its en suite is in a converted outbuilding just off the courtyard accessed by any of the French doors from the main house. Please also note that the garage fits one Fortuner-size vehicle.
We are privileged to live near the graceful town of Graaff Reinet, in the Great Karoo with views to marvel at and history to appreciate. We enjoy restoring classic period properties and welcome guests to enjoy their stay in this beautiful part of the world. The properties are self check in and while the owner lives on a nearby farm, the manager, Natasha, is always available should you wish to meet or have any queries. She will message you, usually via Whatsapp, on the day of your arrival with all check in details
Graaff-Reinet is one of the oldest towns in South Africa and one of the most beautiful. There is a strong Cape Dutch architectural influence and the wide streets are lined with jacaranda and flamboyant trees. There are charming restaurants, museums and cafes, antique shops, spas, a bookshop, deli, and other local businesses, as well as larger country-wide chains for clothing, grocery and equipment purchases. The town is surrounded largely by national park, farms and private game reserves. The Valley of Desolation is one of many spectacular natural view points that guests should have on their sightseeing list, as well as the nearby mountain village of Nieu Bethesda with its fossil museum, the Owl House and many delightful restaurants.
