Mike, Jean & Teddy
Thornton Wilder said “When you are safe at home you wish you were having an adventure. When you are having an adventure, you wish you were safe at home.” No matter where you are from, when you spend a few relaxing days with us in the Finger Lakes you feel like you are safe at home with a little adventure. Nestled between the Cayuga and Seneca Lake Wine Trails. Ovid is within 20 minutes of adventures hiking in beautiful gorges at Watkins Glen and Ithaca’s Taughannock Falls. You can kayak the Erie Canal, Lodi Point State Park or Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. You can experience history at the Women’s Rights National Park, the Memorial Day Museum, and International Motor Racing Research Center. The Manor is on the National Historic Registry. The beautiful 1870s Italianate has ten-foot doors of American Chestnut. The house was built by George and Hannah Jones using lumber from his steam mill. George was a member of New York State assembly with Theodore Roosevelt who stayed with them.
Mike and Jean purchased the Manor in 2017 and updated the 6,000 sq ft Italianate. As a business traveler, Jean stayed in hotels and BNBs across the country. With the vacation traveler in mind, we created the property as a Bed & Brunch, a unique concept. Many BNBs serve breakfast during a regimented time to allow for quick turnover of rooms. Our philosophy is when you are on vacation, sleeping in is a much-needed pleasure. Prior to the pandemic, to accommodate late risers we served Brunch on your schedule with late check out for additional fee. We are waving the additional fee and serving a four course Brunch at your convenience either in your room, in one of our two dining area or on our patio. We truly serve fresh seasonal ingredients as Jean is a Master Gardener, and we have our own gardens. We also source Amish and Mennonite products. We love to have guests enjoy the special experience of coming with us to the weekly Amish Produce Auction and Sauder’s Mennonite Market. Having a wonderful vacation and adventures is not our only concern. As it has been for the past two years, your health and safety are our priority.
Welcome to small town America where there are no taxies or Uber. You can walk down main street and watch Amish buggies go by. Amish Family Farms are dotted throughout the area. Early in the morning, you can see farmers picking seasonal produce to take to the Seneca Produce Auction. Amish and Mennonite families load their produce on horse drawn wagons and bring them to 2295 Yerkes Road, Romulus NY. We would enjoy having you accompany us to the auction on Tuesday or Friday morning at 10 am where we purchase the vegetables that we don’t grow ourselves. Our raised beds are planted with heirloom tomatoes, kale, garlic, broccoli, squash and herbs. We also have fruit trees, a strawberry patch, and yummy red and black raspberries. Women’s Rights National Historic Park tells the story of the first Women’s Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls, NY on July 19, 1848. It is a story of the struggles of women to win the right to vote and establish all citizens equal rights. 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. Located at 136 Fall Street in Seneca Falls.
