Take a quick getaway, come for a romantic stay, gather with friends, or bring the kids for a family trip, this mid-century modern-era mountain house boasts spacious gathering areas, wonderfully appointed bedrooms, a hot tub, a private fenced yard, a large deck, fire pit! A fully stocked kitchen, coffee lounge, and dining room beckon you to relax. The third bedroom is a unique, flexible space with an on-suite bathroom. Spend your days on the lake’s sandy beach, then return to the Mountain Lake Club for dinner and drinks at sunset. The Mountain Lake Club is a total gem!!! There is no need to travel more than 5 minutes to enjoy food and libations They host weekly food specials and entertainment, from karaoke to trivia nights, as well as full-scale concerts and weekly live music guests. Each season, they host an array of special events that are fun for solo travelers, families, and groups of friends.
Five years ago we made a major life change and moved to a more rural area outside of Washington, DC. We were so excited to finish raising our three children as a happy blended family. My husband and I also committed to becoming farmers who not only would live off our land, but give back to our community in simple, but impactful ways. Greener Pastures Family Farm was a grand experience and the 5 stays on property, including a tiny house, bell tent, barn, cottage, and farm house hosted hundreds of guests with great success and warmed my heart beyond measure. Now on our own, my son and me happily manage our Mountain Lake Retreat and still enjoy farming, but on our new City Farm not far from our Mountain Lake Retreat. Besides taking care of our city farm and lake retreat, we volunteer with local animal groups and are very active in helping take care of the aging population in our mountain lake community. We host husbandry workshops, farm to table fundraisers, and small or elopement style weddings at our farm as well. Ask us about purchasing our local honey and chicken eggs during your stay! Hosting and farming have given back to us in deeply satisfying ways. We are happily focused on helping to build agritourism in rural areas by providing a wonderful place to stay. We welcome anyone seeking a retreat from their daily norm. Whether with your family, significant other, or friends who are looking for solitude, romance, or unending choice in outdoor activities the mountainous beauty of West Virginia and surrounding historical locations are calling to you and ready to be enjoyed by you and your guests. I am a quick message away and spend much of my free time paddle boarding on the lake or enjoying time with my son (and business partner) or with our friends lakeside and at the Mountain Lake Club!
The Mountain Lake Retreat is part of an original private, invitation-only mountain retreat community. At one time the heart of the community was the 50-room log-style lodge lost in a terrible fire decades ago. Since then a new building was constructed and recently renovated by two new wonderful owners - Matt and Jeff. They have poured their hearts and pockets into the lake community and love meeting Mountain Lake Retreat guests! Your stay is just a few minutes walk from the Mountain Lake Club restaurant, bar, and sandy beach. Shannondale Lake is an 80 acre lake that rests in the amazing crevices of the West Virginia mountains. From kayak, canoe, paddle boat, and paddle board rentals there is something fun to do on the lake for everyone during your visit. The beach and swimming area are an enjoyable and refreshing place to spend your time. In Winter, the restaurant and bar are open and boost a pretty killer karaoke night each weekend as well as a multitude of music entertainment and special events throughout the year. This is a wonderful walking, running, and biking neighborhood. Wild and Wonderful indeed!!! See you soon in the misty mountains of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia at Shannondale Lake.
