At 15 minutes’ ride from the meeting of highways 12 and 410 – both super-scenic mountain drives popular with bikers – Infidel Acres is a privately owned, motorcycle-only campground with far-reaching views over sagebrush-covered hills at Cowiche in Washington state. This is a veteran-friendly, wild-camping spot with just a handful of sites on grass, leaving plenty of room between each tent for your privacy and peace. By day you can ride empty roads, hike canyon trails or chill back at base and admire the views, but be sure to be outside on clear nights – you might get lucky and glimpse the Milky Way glittering in the dark skies above. The small rural community of Cowiche offers up craft breweries, several wineries with tasting rooms and also restaurants to keep you all fueled up. If you need to stock up on provisions for the next stage of your road trip, head for the stores in Yakima (20 minutes by bike). Any basic maintenance you might need on your bike – old or new – can be provided by Bat City Choppers, run by US Army veterans and former military contractors, and based at the entrance to the campground.
