i love this city and go often with different itineraries for social plans+city sights to make the most of every visit.
a five day visit is ideal (5-7 days)....more if you have friends/family in NYC
walk pretty much every where (over the bridge to Brooklyn is great).
millions of food options!! little island and the sights along the way are fun!!
need to be careful/watchful of vagrants on the street (was followed into a bodega at night and harassed for money/food/drink - actually surprised the owners didn't stop him at the door -\_( ")_/-

I have been to New York several times and have done all the usual tourist attractions. It is worth planning your trip beforehand to get the most out of New York.
I would recommend buying one of the pre-paid New York attraction passes. If you can do 3 attractions in a day, quite easy if you plan before you go, you save a lot of money,
Buying a 7 day subway pass is also worthwhile if you are staying for at least 3 days. These allow you unlimited access to the subway and if you use it 11 times, quite easy to do in 3 days, it has been worth it. The subway is very easy to navigate but again if you download one of the subway maps before you go you can start planning your journeys.

An interesting city but slightly manic with awful traffic.
An interesting city but slightly manic with awful traffic. Reputation as a “ hustle” city well founded as tourist cash chased everywhere you go. Watch out for taxis - even drivers of yellow cabs will offer “cash” deals - insist on metered rides. Note yellow cabs have fixed rates to airports don’t let them overcharge you.
That said it is a unique experience but for a quieter life try Washington DC.

The city that never sleeps was a blast.
The city that never sleeps was a blast. So much to see within walking distance. Subway only $2.25, plenty of E Bike Rentals, lots of affordable restaurants and many expensive ones. Plenty to see and do.
Small hotel with all of the basic amenities in a fantastic location and very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are very small, but well planned out and the bed was very comfortable. It is walking distance to Times Square, the Metro and Penn station. we went for a long weekend to enjoy NYC, and did not have to take uber/lyft even once to get around anywhere in Manhattan. This is the place to stay if you are looking for a small, friendly, comfortable place to stay near Times Square, without the luxuries of larger hotels.
"My two-night stay at the Civilian Hotel was nothing short of wonderful. The hotel's boutique style exudes charm, with every detail meticulously curated to offer a unique and delightful experience. The staff deserves special mention for their warm and welcoming hospitality that truly made me feel at home. The hotel's great location on 48th Street, near Times Square, Broadway theaters is an added bonus. Plus, the close proximity to subway stations all within a 5-minute walk is just perfect for city exploration.
The location is an excellent place very close to Times Square and also many subway stations. Travel to various places within Manhattan was really easy, fast and cheaper with the $33 7 Days Subway pass. The breakfast is kinda good and it is a repeat of the same items almost every day. As the hotel hosts around 500 rooms, the breakfast crowd is really big and you will need to hit the queue before 6:30 AM, else it can take long time.
interesting design, really good peaceful location away from the hustle and bustle of New York but one tram away which was really convenient. beds were SUPER comfy. Starbucks nearby, cheap convenient transport to Manhattan nearby too. lovely island to explore via walking or cycles. staff are really nice too especially the gentleman who tried his best to make good cappuccino (something we struggled to find in America).
This a great hotel and has a fab location with great views. It is really close to 23st metro and we walked to the rail station and Greenwich village and Empire State with ease and Times Square is not too far. We had an amazing view of Empire State. The rooms are what you would expect for big city central (Manhattan). Small but well organised and comfortable and very clean. Really friendly staff.
My expectations were very low. This is by far the least expensive hotel available in New York City (at least a "regular" hotel - I knew there was a shared bathroom. It was clean and functional - and it was a regular toilet/bathroom - just not for my own private use. I was there for only a short night - and very pleased with what I got for my money.
Conveniently situated near Times Square, this hotel offers easy access to the vibrant heart of the city. Guests can indulge in tasty snacks at the trendy snack bar and enjoy satisfying breakfast options each morning. With its prime location and delicious dining offerings, it's the perfect choice for both business and leisure travelers alike.
We have a great time there, we spent 7 nights. Location is the best for the hotel, just a walking distance to Times Square, but far enough to avoid any noise of main streets. Jenny in reception was specially kind and helpful and make our stay very comfortable. Definitely a Hotel to repeat if we will be back at Manhattan.
The Staff was very kind and helpful, the whole hotel is clean and in in good condition. we had a spacious room at the 19th floor with a nice view on the "New Yorker" and on "The Edge". The Subway is only 10 Min away and Times Square is nearby. A good choice for Midtown Manhattan.
Very comfortable boutique hotel in the hearth of Manhattan. Room very nice and comfortable, both room and common spaces very clean. Super location, at 2 steps from times square and central park. Very nice evening food and drinks at the hotel included in the room price.
Excellent location, close enough to Times Square and Subway to reach all parts of Manhattan. Hotel room was very comfortable and clean with an excellent Bar/Restaurant, all the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Would use this hotel again if staying in New York.
Location of the hotel is Superb - it's really close to the Times Square and all other main Manhattan locations. Also, there is a rooftop bar, where you can enjoy the NYC evening view. We also got 2 free drinks at the lobby bar, which was a nice addition.
The hotel is conveniently located in Manhattan, a few minutes from the grand central terminal metro station. It was easy to access major attractions in midtown by foot and other parts of the city by subway. The room was clean, and the restaurant was ok.
The location was perfect, the hotel was close to most of the things you need to see in Manhattan, by walk you can reach many important spots. Also, it was just few minutes far from Times Square by walk and many shops and coffee next to the hotel.
The location of our hotel was right in the center of Times Square. It is situated in upper Manhattan and going from here to any of the major sports in NY was a breeze. Location was top notch and so were the staff members of the hotel.
The rooms were not too small for New York City standards. The hotel is very close to several metro stations and also to Penn Station should you be taking a train somewhere outside of NYC and close to other attractions.
Everything about this place was wonderful. Beautiful hotel, good view, super close to the tram, at a good cost with friendly staff all around. I don't think I will ever stay anywhere else in New York City.
The James Hotel has become "go to and stay hotel" in New York City. The location is perfect. The staff is professional. The suite option is superb. See you again soon.
Location was outstanding. This hotel offer;s the best for visits to New York city for shows and times square. Very Safe for all. I am very Happy with this hotel.
The hotel is very well situated near Times Square and the rooms are globally nice, even if a bit small for the price but on par for other hotels in Manhattan.
