Central City is a true NOLA neighborhood. It is indeed central to everything- the Central Business District (downtown), Garden District and uptown. Known for the Mardi Gras Day parades and Second Lines, you may see a second line roll by on a Sunday afternoon. It is 1 mile away from both the Garden & Central Business Districts (downtown)- including the famous WWII museum, 1 mile from super dome, 1.6 miles from Bourbon Street, & 2-3 miles from the rest of the infamous French Quarter. It is within a historical district and is in the process of gentrification and rebuilding. Most of the houses were built in the early 1900's and display the traditional bright colors with French style architecture. You'll see a true New Orleans neighborhood with a variety of house styles- shotgun singles, shotgun doubles, cottages, victorian, brick rebuilds, new construction and blighted houses around the corner as well- and a variety of people, mostly native/locals, kids that like to practice their brass instruments after school, and some that have moved here from other places.
