During our recent visit to Hotel Durant in Aspen, we booked two rooms for our stay—room 111 and room 301, each offering unique experiences with their own set of challenges and merits.
Room 111, located in the basement, struggled with a lack of natural light, resulting in a consistently dark ambiance throughout our stay. The proximity to the communal lounge and breakfast area meant noise disturbances were frequent, with sounds from late-returning guests and early-rising skiers disrupting our peace.
Room 301 offered a more pleasant aesthetic with its charming decor and balcony access. However, its layout, featuring a French bed and an open bathroom, left much to be desired in terms of privacy, particularly at the sink area.
When we inquired about the possibility of changing rooms or upgrading, even if it meant an additional cost, we were quickly informed that the hotel was fully booked, leaving us without alternatives.
A positive aspect was the hotel's provision of a USB adapter, a small yet appreciated gesture. However, we were disappointed to discover that the après-ski amenities—advertised as complimentary wine, cheese, and cookies—were no longer offered, contrary to what was promised on the website and room literature. The staff's explanation for the discontinuation of these services, citing their lack of control over the decision, felt inadequate and misleading.
For those interested in skiing, it's important to note that the hotel requires guests to store their ski boots in their cars or in their rooms, as there is no dedicated space for ski or snowboard equipment.
One notable convenience is the hotel's 24-hour availability of tea, providing a warm respite at any time of day. However, coffee lovers should be aware that coffee is only available from 7:30 to 10:00 AM, a limitation that might affect morning routines.
Just 1 minute walk away from the Silver Queen Gondola at Aspen Mountain, these apartments feature an outdoor swimming pool and 2 hot tubs. A fully-equipped kitchen and private balcony are included.

We ate breakfast at Poppycocks. It was excellent, no wait, and staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. It was literally eight next door to our hotel.

As an Aspen visitor for many years, I am disappointed with the high-value construction that has removed much of the city’s charm. The setting is as beautiful as ever with its exceptional hiking opportunities.

Great place to visit. Very walkable place.
Great place to visit. Very walkable place.
We drove from Denver to Aspen; beautiful drive but the last hour or so, should be done during daylight hours as the road gets very narrow, with very close and dangerous curves.
If possible, fly directly into Aspen.

The town is wonderful but much different than our first trip fifty years ago and all of it is not for the best either but it’s still a great town but bring you money as it’s very expensive. It’s to bad we couldn’t get access to go to Maroon Bells as that was where we went on our honeymoon and we would have liked to visit it again.

Aspen was absolutely beautiful. 100% worth going.
Aspen was absolutely beautiful. 100% worth going. Everything is very clean. All the staff we came across were very friendly and helpful. The town provides bus service to several places for free which is great. They also provide a free taxi service that travels inside the city for free. Makes it awesome for your short trips so you aren't constantly having to deal with parking or trying to GPS everywhere with the amount of pedestrians. The gondola was an amazing adventure also. EVERYTHING in town is very pricey so be prepared for some expensive meal tickets.

I visited Aspen with my family over the Christmas holiday and the town was just magical. The friendly and helpful nature of the people in this little town made us feel at home. Ski lessons at Buttermilk was the highlight of our trip. The mountain was beautiful and our instructor was awesome. Getting around town was easy and the bus rides were surprisingly free.

We came in the fall and stayed three nights.
We came in the fall and stayed three nights. We visited Maroon Bells, Kebler Pass, took the Silver Queen Gondola to the top of the mountain for the fantastic view. We even took Dean' Ghost tour one evening. Also, we visited John Denver's Sanctuary, which is worthwhile. Wish we had one more day to shop and explore the town and beautiful architecture. We really enjoyed Aspen.
We were in Aspen for a volleyball tournament and the hotel was just a short walk or bike ride away. It was directly across from the city center. It was absolutely the best location. We brought our bikes and were able to lock them up in the cute small courtyard that was in the center of all the rooms. I read reviews that claimed their rooms were dated and needed work. I did not feel that at all. Yes, its very cabiny. But #2 was well appointed and very clean. LOVED the old workshop table in kitchen being used as an island.
The staff at Mountain Chalet Aspen are exceptional- everyone is friendly and when I left something behind in the room they took the trouble to message me and help sort out onward delivery. the hotel is in the style of a Swiss Chalet and is utterly charming. it’s not the most fancy and the decor is slightly tired but that doesn’t detract from the comfort offered by the hotel. The includes breakfast was also really good.
the pool is amazing
the rooms are super clean and quaint
Tom at the front desk is absolutely amazing, helpful and kind.
the things they offer are dope also.. free whit wine in the lobby in the evening and continental breakfast is very satisfying also.
the location is also very convenient, literally 2 or 3 blocks from downtown Aspen
We were surprised to be served a full hot breakfast (first one since the covid started:). It had a lot of variety, plus freshly squeezed orange juice.
The room itself felt a little bit outdated but the price you pay to stay in the Aspen downtown was really nice.
Additionally, we've got underground parking for free.
Location location! This is a great location right behind the W and Little Nel hotels. This is a great value. the unit is not luxurious but very nice. Loved having a smart TV. It is in a wonderful area where you can walk to everything but be very quiet and private. Easy parking.
resort hotel. The location is excellent, the service is great, and the hotel provides shuttle service to and from the airport as well as buses to Aspen. The rooms are spacious, the kitchen is fully equipped, making cooking very convenient. The scenery is beautiful.
We liked that the hotel provided us with shuttle to and from Highlands, which is much better skiing are than at Aspen Ajack. Restaurant in the hotel is top quality and chef is providing very diverse and excellent cousin - we really enjoyed dinners at the place.
The hotel is pretty comfortable, clean, the staff is great, is 10 min away from downtown but they have a shuttle that drives you almost everywhere in Aspen so we could visit all places we wanted using the shuttle.
We had great days in Aspen.
We are returning to the Limelight for about the 19th time .
Breakfast always great and the new improved decor in the rooms
has really upgraded the hotel and made the stay more enjoyable.
Staff excellent especially at breakfast time.
The studio was clean and cozy, and it had all the amenities as advertised. The location was perfect. You can go anywhere walking, there are a lot of restaurants and shops nearby. I will stay here again the next time I come to Aspen.
I like the location, 3 min walk to the bus stop (free bus) and 10 min walk to downtown Aspen. Very nice staff, great handling a big group. Fantastic breakfast. Attention to details, for example the complementary wine happy hour.
EXCELLENT LOCATION in the heart of downtown Aspen for a great price! The pool and FREE cabana with all the flowers and lush foliage was such a beautiful backdrop for our vacay pics.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
I’ve stayed at the property many times. it’s comfortable and if booked in advance fairly reasonable for Aspen within a very short walk to all of downtown
