Try to avoid this city if possible!
Try to avoid this city if possible! They have nice pictures of some areas in travelling brochures but this is like 5% of the toal city. Mostly this city is heavily broken roads, mud-walkways, overcrowded, traffic jams and polluted air. When flying to Tanzania try to be it that city not too long. Fly or drive away to your next destination ASAP. And remember - prefer to use (locally represented) agency when travelling longer distances in Tanzania. If something happens with the vehicle (sooner or later it will happen) you have someone who might help you or at least worries about you.

I liked the outskirts of town - 1hr away from the airport...
I liked the outskirts of town - 1hr away from the airport was where I spent most at. The main city was a bit overwhelming and stressful at times, i.e. police officers hunting after foreigners and questioning your presence etc. I had two occasions where I was stopped just like that and the officers asking heaps of questions like where you come from, what your travels purpose was, what do you do, and if you're married (I'm a female solo traveller). I answered all the questions succinctly & clearly. However these officers just somehow would find ways to make it go longer than necessary. One even accused me of not having the right document (I was like what do you mean with the valid passport and visa?!). Anyway, he wanted to take me to the police station and court of law. I had a local driver with me who talked him out of it by giving him some shillings. And he turned to me and said "it's solved". Make sure you always carry your passport or ID documents with you. It's always helpful to know at least a local that you can reach out too when you find yourself trapped in tricky situations. Not much to see either in DAR. Maybe spend more time outside of the city.

Dar es Salaam is wonderful city to visit.
Dar es Salaam is wonderful city to visit. It has many interesting sites and amazing high-end restaurants to choose from. We had a wonderful experience at the AKEMI REVOLVING RESTAURANT where my spouse thoroughly enjoyed Lasagna. My grilled chicken was not exactly up to the task but passable. The service was great but the hotel manager Mr. Lorenzo Sachin could do with some PR. He moved around the restaurant totally ignoring some tables (such as ours) while busying himself with customers on other tables. Mr. Sachin, customer equity is important more so in hotel and restaurant industry... Mwenda (Kenya)
A lovely location out of the city centre over looking the sea. Ideal for one night at the start or end of your trip.
It is about 20 minutes by taxi to the ferry terminal and about 50-60 minutes to the airport.
While the hotel is large and has all the usual facilities, it does have a corporate feel to it.
The Indian restaurant serves magnificent Indian food and would go so far as to say it is the best we have ever had - having eaten in many Indian restaurants over the world including India.
I've stayed at Kipepeo many times over the years and it never dissapoints, thankyou to the whole staff team but in particular Dorothy, Amnani, Frances and Upendo - whether you are in a simple beach hut listening to the waves or the deluxe bandas in the trees your stay will be truly memorable - we would recommend trying the kayaking and Sinda Island snorklung both are fab - thank you all - Laura, Gabi, Adas and Pam :):)
This hotel is fabulous. It's great value for money with warm, friendly, very helpful and professional staff. The rooms are beautiful, clean and spacious, with a comfy bed and wonderful shower. Food is great and it's location on the beach gives perfect views. For business or leisure break it has everything you need, from conference facilities to sauna, gym and lovely pool. It has great African charm and soul.
Kiji beach resort is my favorite place in dar es salaam, it s a quite , safe and peaceful hotel near the beach and with a wonderful swimming pool , same as the picture with a clean water.
The staff is really friendly and professional particularly m MIster Ali and young guys of 22 years old that speaks very good english and make you feel like at home
i warmly recommand this hotel
-Very good and reliable WiFi, best I’ve had in a hotel in Tanzania (5 stars alone for that)
-Nice and friendly staff
-Good and central location
-Everything I needed was there, it’s no luxury but bed was very comfortable and shower was working. Also there is a small fridge
-everyday fresh bedsheets/towel wouldn’t have been necessary for two nights but proves cleanliness of course
The location is perfect. By the ocean. A beautiful view of Dar es Salaam. The garden, tge pool, the pizzeria on the rock by the sea. The breeze is wonderful.
It is very easy to get around the city from here with Bolt, bajaj or bodaboda.
You can see that this hotel once was beautiful and the pride of the area. But it lost its spark since it did not get any maintenance.
This is a Real Gem in a Angle of Paradise .. I come from Italy but when in Dar for my work i always choose this Hotel.. Very good rates, swimming pool and beach, excellent restaurant and breakfast and so many possibilities to relax and enjoy activities .. i really advice it to everyone and i will return next week when back from internal Tanzania!
Cheap price. They offered free pick up from the airport. The wifi worked great. The staff was friendly. The accommodations were good for the price. I have stayed at another hotel in Dar es Salaam for double the price that was close to the same quality. Actually the more expensive hotel's wifi was much slower and less reliable.
Very big and spacious rooms, good A/C, very good beds, excellent view on the Dar Es Salaam port area, clean and modern apartments, best Wi-Fi we encountered in Tanzania and good buffet breakfast. Location is excellent to take a taxi to discover Dar Es Salaam further.
nice resort with private beach, but part of beach is polluted with tons of garbage, on other parts of the beach hotel staff is trying their best carting away trash with wheelbarrows; our room was clean and quiet with nice view on the ocean
Didn't take breakfast. In our booking breakfast was not included! The hotel is a germ located at the heart of Dar es salaam about ten minutes walk from Zanzibar ferry, surounded by shopping malls. It has good stuff and great atmosphere.
Great location, with lots of transport options, close to the city centre and not too far from the airport. Right next to a big market.
The rooms were a good size. Good breakfast.
very closer to the airport and good people around but it’s good hotel with low budget and not more than two nights to catch early flight at Julius Nyerere airport
For Dar es Salaam and Tanzanian standard this is perhaps one of the best hotels. Even though some details are not entirely up to international standards.
