There is a lot of emphasis put on Porto and it is lovely.

There is a lot of emphasis put on Porto and it is lovely. It is worthy of a 1/2 day trip to grab a taste of the various sardines and local seafood at the market; book your ticket early to see Livraria Lello; cruise the riverwalk area and take a short port tour if that is your interest. It is easy to walk around Porto and driving was not an issue. The market has an abundance of local delicacies to try-sardines in a variety of flavors for 1E or purchase fresh seafood, mushrooms and herbs to go with the made on sight pasta to cook later. The Livraria Lello bookstore was the most uniquely wonderful bookstore to browse. They have created small easily portable books of the classics in a variety of languages for a truly special souvenir for the book and Harry Potter enthusiast. On way to the river, stop by the train station to absorb the history glazed into the azulejo tiles--fascinating artwork. At the end of the day, a casual walk along the river and a snack while enjoying the view is perfect. OR---take the last port tour of the day at Burmester, walk over the bridge and then relax along the river with a snack to soak up the port.

This was my second trip and loved it more.

This was my second trip and loved it more. So easy to get around and it has a more relaxed vibe than lisbon. We did the boat trip up the Douro to Regua and the following day we just walked and had lunch at Fladgate Taylor's Port House. What an experience. Using public transport with buses and metro is so easy and felt safe.

It was in a good location on a popular street (the Magestic Cafe, the tiled church, etc) with lots of shops down the street below and a few good restaurants nearby. Also easy to get to the Sao Bento train station where you can exchange foreign currency and opposite where all the tours left from. I liked the size - not too big and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast bar was well stocked and the pastries yummy. One night there was a disturbance with a family that stayed there - they were very noisy and disturbed me but only the one night.

Porto was a great place to visit and we enjoyed every minute of our stay! Getting around by cab was a nightmare but as an 85 year old, I was not inclined to walk too much so all was well. We ate in many different places and all were good including the hotel dining room and the bar!

First night stayed in a hotel 5 minutes toestiva Quay, riverside restaurants and main town. Dinner at a restaurant behind front line at half the price. Second night (after Douro cruise and stay in Régua and return by train) stayed in a hotel near Compahna station half the price with easy access by train to Porto centre. Preference dependent on your itinerary. Would do it all again.

Viewed all the recommended sites in two days. Food and drink was good value. Filled the remaining days with Duró Valley Wine trip, Matosinhos and Guimaraes trips. Local buses and metro were excellent, connecting wherever you stay to the centre or airport. Next time we won’t stay in the centre because of better value outside and travel in as we need!

I loved my room! It was like walking into a little oasis. I enjoyed the relaxing area with the sofa and TV with Netflix, the free mini-bar, and the great shutters on the windows that made my room quiet and dark for sleeping and all the special touches that made it like a little apartment away from home. It was all so much more than I expected and will make it my destination whenever I return to Porto. The staff also was super friendly and accommodating. Thank you for making my last days in Portugal and the Camino Portuguese so relaxing!

Receptionest Virginia lands a book about Portugal and helps with plans for the day. The waiter Tiego at the Top Roof Terrace Bar is the friendliest andkibfest of people and also versed on turist dilemmas. Breakfast is excellent! The team is so good that one foes not mind the concept of a small hotel. i will recommend to all friends and will return.

Wonderfull would be not enough to say! Utopian hotel was a last step of my travel in Portugal. The room was amazing, colorful, very clean and cozy, the large bathroom, coffee corner and many more. I basically did not want to leave! Location! I would like to mention the kindness of Sandra, she was looking after her guests and was always present for any questions we might have, people like her are truly gem for the Company! Thank you for everything, I will be back for sure.

My favorite place we stayed in all of Portugal!! The apartment was beautiful, sparkling clean and so comfortable that it was hard to leave. Rita gave us an in-depth review of Porto with many of her recommendations. The bottle of wine when we checked in and the pastel de nata hanging on our door on our last day were really sweet touches. Also, the apt is really centrally located and everything we wanted to see was in easy walking distance. Can’t recommend this place enough!!

I had an incredible experience. All the staff were really lovely, welcoming and friendly. We had a port wine taster on arrival which was a nice touch. They even served me birthday cake with breakfast on my birthday. The bed was comfortable. There was enough space to put suitcases in the room. It was nice to have a balcony to the street. The location was very central. It was the best place I stayed in Portugal and would stay with FLH again in a heartbeat.

Everything, the personnel was very helpful, provided very good information on where to go, what to see, and even advice for the next leg of our trip to Portugal. The room itself was very comfortable and clean. Our balcony was looking at the parking space, we didn't mind it at all - it was nice and quiet and we could sit peacefully outside ! :) The location of the hotel is good, walking distance to everything. Couldn't recommend it more.

Beautifully renovated and designed hotel with high quality finishes right in the old town with all the entertainment and facilities at your doorstep. Staff were friendly and helpful (as everywhere in Portugal). Breakfast was good quality. Beds where very comfortable. I had indicated that the (standard) rooms were really small for 2 people with large suitcases and the hotel manager kindly offered us a slightly larger room.

Modern hotel with walking distance to all important points of the city. Professional staff. Kind welcome and always willing to assist the guests. Very clean hotel. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds. Very close to "Sweet Nata Sweet", the best pastel de nata I have eaten in all Portugal, even better than the one from Belen, Lisbon. I do recommended this hotel.

The breakfast was quite good but not exeptional. Almost no hotel in Portugal offers natural orange juice although oranges grow everywhere. Hotel Vila Galé is no exception...The beds were very comfortable and the room clean. The Spa area was well maintained and offers a fantastic view from the top of the 19 stories building.

We loved this apartment! It was cozy and looked just like the pictures. The location was perfect for the upper part of the city. It is a 15 to 20 minute hilly walk down to the river or a 7 euro taxi ride. We rented a car for our Portugal trip and Manuella told us about two parking ramps very close to the apartment.
