But when you need to pick up supplies, National Park is only an 8-minute drive away, where you can take your pick from the local cafe's, bars or local shops. If you're planning a mountain getaway in winter, Whakapapa ski field is less than 30-minutes drive away, so for days spent up on the mountain in the snow, you'll be ideally located. Abel Tasman National Park is the smallest National Park in New Zealand, but it is one of the most scenic. Abel Tasman boasts pristine white sandy beaches, tranquil estuaries and wonderful forested headlands. The Coastal Track is world famous, and visitors can choose to explore it on their own, or with a guide. Other ways to explore the coastline include sea kayaking, yacht, or water taxis. At the southern entrance to Abel Tasman National Park there is fantastic opportunity for visitors to swim with seals.
