Kokomo Retreat, hotel in Russell

Kokomo Retreat offers access to a private beach area with a range of activities including fishing, kayaking, snorkeling and diving. For your relaxation, the property also features a hot tub.

There is so much to like about this property. Traveling in May we had a number of options to consider in Russell, and as we were looking for somewhere quiet and tucked away yet close to Russell itself, Kokomo Retreat ticked all our boxes. The apartment itself is spacious, with a large living area, plenty of comfortable seating and a great outlook. The hosts were unobtrusive but readily available and the wider area is an absolute treat with quiet beaches, grassy areas and easy access to walking paths. Highly recommended!

We were welcomed by the lovely Catherine. Showed to our apartment, what a stunning view and amazing sunsets!.. A very well set out apartment. A few special touches like white robes to wear, hot tub with a view and little chocolates in the fridge for each of us. Our hosts could not have done more for us, even bringing in our washing one day when it started to rain...if We get back to Russell one day, we will definitely look up Bellrock....thanx Cathrine and Stuart.

Stunting location and friendly people with beautiful track walks and the scenery and views are spectacular. We had dinner at Sage restaurant at Paroa Vineyard which I highly recommend for not the fabulous food but the views are beautiful too and the service was outstanding. The scenery is amazing and so are all the trails a must do and definitely a beautiful place to visit

    Russell is heavenly.

Russell is heavenly. It is so beautiful and we had the best time. What a gem this part of the world has access to! The oysters were amazing. The food/experience and service at the Duke of Marlborough was first rate. The sunsets were surreal. The visit to Urupakapuka by ferry led to an amazing day of exercise and adventure, we had a heavenly swim in one of the islands isolated beaches by ourselves. What a day!🥰

If you are around Bay of islands I suggest to not stay at Paihai and go to Russell. Smaller, quieter and much nicer. There is a ferry across to Paihai if you want to go there. Long Beach is not to be missed and we enjoyed the Flagstaff walk too.

Nice & quiet in the middle of winter.Gets very busy at summertime so booking ahead is essential. Always good food at The Duke restaurant & great front rooms with a balcony with sea views & a view of the street, great for a couple of drinks before heading to the bar!

    Russell was so cool.

Russell was so cool. Easy to get around and so lovely in Winter as very few people. The history is interesting and the people were mostly friendly. Next time we will stay 3 nights as we really relaxed and book a trip to Sage restaurant for a special treat.

It is a beautiful location and peaceful.

It is a beautiful location and peaceful. There are enough cafe's / restaurants for 4 or 5 days but plenty more in nearby resorts. The one thing you need to realise about NZ is that "eateries" general cafe's and take aways open early 6 or 7 am but close early too, 3 or 4pm. In general the stop serving an hour before. A lot of restaurants open 12 to 3pm and 5 to 8pm. If you want to eat late you need to check on line for places. Very few apart from Asian places take orders after 9pm. Good supermarket. Lovely sea and beaches around. Public loos are quite prolific in NZ including beaches with changing rooms. The whole country top to bottom is wort a visit. Low traffic levels apart from cities. Lot of mountain roads.

A boutique lodge located a very short walk into the idyllic town of Russell in the Bay Of Islands. Greg and Peter are the best hosts. Before we arrived they recommended some superb places to eat. The breakfasts are to die for, beautifully presented and making use of ingredients from the garden Peter beats any chef I have encountered. The rooms are tastefully kitted out with everything you could possibly want and have views overlooking the bay. Couldn’t fault it, the most perfect three night stay!

Our hosts, Peter and Greg made our stay a memorable one. The lodge is a two storey beautiful character home with wonderful views of a harbour. It’s a short easy walk into Russell. The breakfast provided was gourmet and plentiful, beautifully cooked by Peter and presented by Greg. They offered helpful information about the area including great eating out options and excursions. Highly recommend this for your stay in beautiful Russell.

The longer we stayed here the more we liked it! The location is wonderful - just a very short walk to downtown Russell with shops and restaurants. And what you get in exchange is an incredible view! Bed was the comfiest of our trip - cushy and soft but not saggy at all. Good a/c but nice to have the doors open in the daytime. Lots of good walks and we swam a few times at the beach that was 2 minutes away. Great stay!

The studio is one of a group of 4 but remains private. There is a small balcony where you can sit overlooking the lovely view of the sea. The kitchen is small but well equipped and there is an outdoor kitchen for guests to use if you want to cook something. It's easy to find and there is good parking. Russell is just 5 minutes away but you would need a car.

Lovely upstairs suite, with a large deck facing north and west. On the waterfront, right in the heart of Russell, yet quiet and peaceful at the same time. The host, Karen was terrific: friendly, but never intrusive. We got fresh fruit, yogurt etc provided for the continental breakfast, along with cereals, toast, juice and delicious homemade preserves. :-)

We had a lovely stay here, we had booked the King Studio and it was very clean and tidy. The hosts were wonderful and friendly. The salt water pool was fantastic to cool off in and was beautifully maintained in garden surroundings and had a small rock waterfall to add to the ambiance. The motel is close to town which was only a 5 minute walk away.

Wendy the host greeted us upon arrival, and very kindly upgraded us as we had a two year old, so he had his own room. The cabin was ideal, good kitchen, comfy bed and the pool was handy too. Washing facilities were handy too. The motel is in a great location and walking distance (5 mins) to Russell. Would definitely stay here again.

We booked two rooms in this lovely quiet area. The studios are very spacious, clean and comfortable and contain a kitchenette. Both rooms had a private balcony and beautiful views over Russell and the bay. The lodge is just a short walk to the waterfront and restaurants. Owner Catherine was very pleasant and helpful.
