By staying at Ekkerøy you choose to live in and close to nature. You have a wonderful view of the fjord, the bird life and the long horizons in Varanger. In our apartments you will find soul, atmosphere and a lot of reading material if you are interested in the area you are in. The host Ingjerd Tjelle is (almost) always available with help or information.
I am a former journalist, and now works as tourism develops and author. I have written several books about Finnmark, and in November 2015 came my book "Sterke krefter (Powerful forces"). It's about healers in Finnmark - past and present. Otherwise I run with tourism since 2001, has three children and a husband who is also working a bit for Ekkerøy Holiday House.
Ekkerøy is located 2,5 hours driving (185 km) from Kirkenes, 15 km east of Vadsø. Varanger is a very beautiful area of Norway. Sometimes I say that I live in a painting! Varanger is known for its flat barren landscape with big sky, much different and changing light, harsh weather and pristine subarctic nature, wildlife and plant life. When you drive along the national tourist road Varanger you may experience frequent changes in the weather, reindeer jumping over the road, waves almost turn over the road in some places, and arctic bird species - some places in large flocks.
