The Villa Kamares building was originally built in 1912 and was a family house owned by a Cretan couple named Kostas and Avangeline Honianakis. My wife and I bought the property in 2008 - we fell in love with the village of Panormo and its people and had a dream to restore the building to its former glory whilst respecting the tradition and style of the area and to bring people of all nationalities to Panormo to enjoy the special village we fell in love with. I renovated the villa with advice from my Cretan friends in the village over the following eight years and during the summer of 2016 Villa Kamares opened its doors for the first time as three rented apartments over two floors.
We are Laura & Chris, a married couple with children from a small coastal town on the East Yorkshire coast of England. Like most couples we dreamed of owning a home abroad and began looking for our ideal place. We stumbled across Panormo, Crete quite by accident and fell in love with the village and its people and soon found our dream property in the heart of the village, our own piece of paradise. We enjoy our lives in the UK and Crete, spending time with our family and friends, as well as sailing, walking and sightseeing. We have a wide taste in cuisines and are always willing to try something new. We enjoy local Cretan food the most due to the intense flavor the land gives the food as it is growing, flavors we think are beyond comparison :)
The traditional, picturesque seaside village of Panormo successfully blends Cretan character with low key tourism. The village enjoys lovely sandy beaches with clear, shallow waters and stone breakwaters for safe swimming, a natural harbour lined with restaurants and a dive centre with low key watersports. It's easy to while away your time in the village with a choice of attractive bars and around a dozen traditional tavernas serving delicious home cooked food, fresh fish and seafood and tempting grills. Every day needs are catered for with a bakery, butcher, three mini markets, a pharmacy, a couple of hairdressers and jewellers, a massage and beauty specialist and three ATM machines. The historic church of St George, which is located by the harbour, attracts many visitors, whilst the stone built Carob Mill Cultural Centre at the edge of the village hosts exhibitions, music and theatre performances. One of the pleasures of Panormo is that, because of its size, its many attractions can be reached within a few minutes. Villa Kamares lies in the very heart of the village which means it's ideally located to enjoy the very best of all it has to offer.
