The listings belong to an island-style complex called Plakias Panorama Houses, located at the well-known Plakias village in south Crete. Plakias is located in southern Crete, about 30 minutes’ drive or 35 km south of Rethymnon. Set beside a sweeping sandy crescent and accessed via two scenic gorges – Kotsifou and Kourtaliotiko, a laid-back indie travellers’ favourite. You can find anything you need in the village and it’s an excellent launch pad for regional excursions and hikes through olive groves, along seaside cliffs and to some sparkling hidden beaches. The beach of Plakias extends east from the village. It is one of the biggest beaches in Crete, offering a sense of space and comfort to suit every taste. There are showers all along the beach and many parking spaces. There are other lovely beaches near Plakias, such as Damnoni and Amoudi. A little further away are Lefkogia and Schinaria, the preferred beach of scuba divers. The beach of Preveli is also excellent. For those of you, who enjoy scuba diving, there is a diving center at the Hotel Calypso near Plakias. If you would like a panoramic view of the bay from above, you must visit Mirthios, a small village clinging to the cliffs above Plakias with a wonderful view of the harbor. Selia, another small village near Plakias, also offers a panoramic view and very good taverns. You should definitely walk in the streets of the old town of Rethymno, which is 300m away, where the old houses with the venetian doors and the minarets will take you on a journey through time. A plethora of restaurants, cafes and shops are waiting for you to explore them. At the edge of the old town you can visit Fortezza Castle, where you can enjoy the spectacular view. A stop to the Archeological museum and the Folklore Museum of Rethymno will complete your visit.
