Hello, I am Simon, and I live with my 3 sons in Kampen, Holland. Having had a big Bed and Breakfast here in Holland for many years it seemed like a fun idea to make our Cretan holiday home available for holiday stays. We have had our house in the village for about 20 years now, and visit Crete ourselves often, usually in spring and autumn. We have a contact who lives near to the house, she helps with check-in and is also available for help or advice during your stay.

Property information

Discover our 2 bedroom holiday Cottage for 1-5 persons in South East Crete near Ierapetra, in a peaceful mountain village called Agios Ioannis, about 15 minutes drive from the beach! The house is situated in a village overlooking the Libyan sea, at an altitude of about 500 meters. You can enjoy the view over the mountains all the way to the sea from your bedroom and roof terrace. The house was completely renovated in 2009, having been derelict for many years, and has 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, sitting room and kitchen , The house is airconditioned and heated throughout, and there is a washing machine and dryer. The kitchen is well equipped, with hotplate, combi microwave, dishwasher, fridge, coffee machine, and toaster. There is also a bread machine, so you can wake up to freshly baked bread in the morning! We have excellent wifi in the house. Upstairs is a large roof terrace with sea views, downstairs a walled garden with vines and jasmine.

Neighbourhood information

The house is in the middle of a village that was largely abandoned in the 70's. About 20 years ago people started renovating properties in the village, and now there are some really nice holiday homes there. There is a taverna in the village square, also a music café higher up in the village. The village is about 500 meters above sea level, and because of this is generally cooler than the coast. There are fantastic beaches all along the coast here, some busy and with tavernas, and many very quiet and secluded. The nearest large town is Ierapetra, about 30 minutes drive. It has several big supermarkets, and is a busy market town with traditional restaurants and good shops. There are archeological sites at Myrtos and Gournia. The museum and fort in Ierapetra are well worth a visit, as are the Roman fish tanks at Kakkos Bay. You definitely need a car for this trip! The lanes near the house are very steep, access with wheelchair is difficult.
