Company information

Hi I’m Mark After travelling the world, I decided to settle down in Suffolk twenty years ago and started my own little business with a beautiful old derelict farm complex, which I converted into six lovely little cottages for people to escape from city life and enjoy the wonderfully rural experience that this area amazingly has, despite it’s close proximity to London. I love what I do and am ‘Hands On’ with welcoming guests to my own six cottages, as well as looking after my Cottage Agency 'The Grove Cottages' that soon developed as other owners came asking me to take on their cottages and give them the same level of personal customer care, attention, and promotion that we are known and appreciated for. I don’t want to be a huge company, I’m very happy to have a small agency where personal involvement is always the priority and where I can pick only places which I love and know inside out to join us. I am always available to answer any questions and above all else I want you to be in a cottage that suits you, so you will become our ambassador. Please do ask me a question about this cottage and I will give you a very honest answer. Best Wishes Mark - The Grove Cottages

Property information

A Cosy Coastal Cottage. Sleeping four in a picturesque Suffolk village, just 18 minutes from the best of the Suffolk Coast at Aldeburgh, Orford and Orford Ness. Wren Cottage is a pretty little 16th Century cottage, full of character. It is 50 yards from the centre of Wickham Market; one of Suffolk’s lovely unspoilt coastal villages. You enter the cottage from the large courtyard into a large hall with an open staircase to take you to the two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. Off the hall is a convenient downstairs toilet and a shower, at the end of the hall is the doorway to the main room. The main room has lovely old windows along the roadside and a big inglenook fireplace with a cosy wood-burning stove, there are two big comfy sofa’s to relax into and some lovely antique sideboards in keeping with this historic beamed room There is a separate dining room which makes this place great for special occasions. There is a very well-appointed kitchen with an Aga type cooker, Belfast sink and dishwasher. The charming cosy character of this historic cottage along with its comfortable sofas and pretty antique furniture makes it a very relaxing place to stay in. 2 well behaved doggies are welcome. Please call before booking if you have a banned dog. There is a 20 Pound charge per pet for up to 7 nights. Please note that cottage owners cannot accept pets that have not been paid for, so please make sure that you have paid for your pet before arrival. Special Reduced rate for 2 guests using just one bedroom outside High Season. Please note that if you put in the number of guests as 2 then it is assumed you will only require one bedroom. If you want to use 2 bedrooms then you should put in the number of guests as 3, because outside High Season the larger cottages will have a reduced rate for 2 guests using only one bedroom reflecting the saving made on laundry and cleaning.

Neighbourhood information

Outside there is a pretty courtyard, it is enclosed and has benches, a table and chairs, and BBQ facilities, the tree in the courtyard is lit up with fairy lights and there are tubs of flowers and herbs. Wickham Market has 2 very good tea rooms, a couple of pubs, a Chinese and an Indian restaurant, a good Fish n’ Chips shop and some interesting shops. There are some excellent restaurants and gastro pubs within walking distance; across the fields and along the footpaths, or a short drive away. Wren Cottage’s position is great for exploring the best of the unspoilt Suffolk Coast and the most interesting towns are just 20 – 25 minutes away Heathlands, like Dunwich Heath, and forests, like Rendlesham Forest and Tunstall forest, are close by and are great for walkers. Inland is Framlingham with its impressive Castle, restaurants, shops and antiques centres. Orford has an interesting Castle, an oysteridge, some great restaurants, smokehouse, pubs, and a quay with boating trips and crossings to the nature reserve of Orford Ness. Aldeburgh, which is on the sea, is famous for its arts, crafts and restaurants as well as still being able to buy fresh fish from the fishermen on the beach.
