The Sheiling sits in a quiet crofting community at Achgarve near Gairloch on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. It overlooks beautiful mountains and is just 10 minutes walk from the sea. The guest lounge has panoramic views across open countryside towards Gruinard Bay. We are situated 16 miles north of Gairloch and 44 miles from Ullapool. We are a quiet place to stay if you are touring the North Coast 500 or just exploring Wester Ross. You will receive a warm Scottish welcome and personal service.
I have lived in this area of the Scottish Highlands all my life and I enjoy welcoming guests into my home which is a VisitScotland 4 Star B&B. I can recommend places to visit in the area, as well as the best cafes and restaurants. My hobbies are gardening, cooking, and walking my miniature poodle Charlie who I love! I also enjoy catching up with friends and going on caravan holidays.
The Sheiling is located between Loch Ewe and Loch Gruinard, on the same scenic peninsula as the beaches at Mellon Charles, Aultbea, Opinan and Mellon Udrigle. It is ideal for relaxing holidays to "get away from it all". There are a variety of walking opportunities in the hills and on the sandy beaches. You can take a boat trip to spot whales, dolphins, seals and seabirds. On clear nights in spring and autumn, you may be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) thanks to our "Dark Skies". The famous Inverewe Garden (National Trust for Scotland) draws many visitors with its sub-tropical plantations which flourish thanks to the Gulf Stream. A wide range of meals is available in cafes and restaurants in the local area where you can sample fresh seafood and game. We can help you with table reservations for evening meals or tell you which restaurants are offering takeaways. The village of Laide (2 miles away) has a licenced grocery shop. There are also many Highland craft workshops to visit, as well as museums at Gairloch and Ullapool.
